Guy was promised a great OL and a running game. He got neither.

Plus, he left Atlanta *only* because his previous employer of 15 years tried to hire a guy with X counts of sexual harassment in his *immediate* future.

Matt Ryan is the best Falcon to play the game, and in the top 5 QB's of the past 15 years. He got boned in this deal (see: Joe Montana)

Indianapolis sports are really bad when it comes to admitting defeat and rebuild.  The pacers have been competitive for about 35 years and never got through.

colts got that one super bowl, so theres that.   But the last few years they have been doing the same thing, even when they had another possible generational talent, before this rotating cast of has-beens.

Just admit that you need to start a guy who's 22 years old and going to stink for 1-2 years before potentially being great.   It's the only way to possible sustained success.

I agree about Ryan's talent...but, OTOH, if he continues to be paid his full salary, the joke is on the team/coach/owner, not him. Getting paid to sit on the bench and watch the team suck ass is not a bad way to get paid, IMO.

This is really bad news for Washington...

For whatever reason, Washington sucks against rookie QBs and/or backups making their start/filling in.

/Sigh

Which is exactly what they are doing.

Hey, maybe the Colts should get themselves a franchise QB instead of annually cycling through has-beens.

Deion Sanders, and an admittedly disgraced Michael Vick want a piece of that.

Ryan had a cool nickname, and East Coast (BU) pedigree, and should have one a Super Bowl but, what have you done for me lately? never lived up to the hype. a very good QB for awhile but, if the greatest Falcon of all time, why'd they let him go?  And while due to injury, he's likely done for the season.  Maybe he can find some Drew Brees magic.

I regret I have but one smart to give. Ryan WAS the franchise, and what they did to him was beyond horrendous, imo. I was happy when he demanded and got traded. I'm sad that he's out for maybe for good. I've been a lifelong, die hard fan of my home team, but now, I don't care about them.

Get paid ride the bench, heal up, give it one more run next year

No matter who the quarterback is, they can Count On Losing This Sunday.

Colts released Peyton Manning, and got Andrew Luck thanks to St. Curtis Painter and a losing record... but in the last couple of years we have seen a conga line of qbs that hasn't happened since the Colts of the 80s. Now Matt Ryan has a separated shoulder that will keep him out a few weeks regardless, and Frank Reich realizes he is toast baring a crazy run. So why not take a chance with Sam Ehlinger looked good in the preseason games he played.

This all true, but if he just waited another 10 seconds or so to snap the ball a few times, he'd have a ring.

rickythepenguin: East Coast (BC) pedigree

FTFY. BU shut down their football program in the 90s.

Reich might have been in the room when the decision to change quarterbacks was made, but he did not make the decision. That decision was made by Irsay and the gm, mostly Irsay.

Not just a few weeks. Unless he completely shiats the bed, Sam is starting the rest of the season. Matt is done.

I don't know much about Ryan's career outside of him always doing well for me in Fantasy. He got me some really great numbers whenever I picked him in the past.

Michael Vick? No. The original Colin Kaepernick in a sense. A very athletic guy who had some success early on, until people figured out how to defend against him. Whereupon he became a rather mediocre QB. At least Kaepernick didn't throw his playbook into the corner and never look at it again upon receiving it. Atlanta has 9 guys who made the HOF. Vick won't be one of them, dogs or no.
