"People are starving", which is why we are wasting food instead of feeding the hungry.

What a bunch of useless dipshiats.  This has to be some sort of false flag thing, there's no way people could really be dumb enough to think that vandalism and food wastage will convince others to cut back on their gasoline usage.

The idea that we're spending too much on protecting artwork is kind of laughable considering the outlay basically consists of "buying a piece of glass."

Are there no Thomas Kincade or Jon McNaughton paintings they could vandalize?  You know, artists who actually support the right-wing policies they're protesting?

I don't even want to see that vandalized.  Leave the art alone unless it's a direct and absolute horrifying statement or something.  Like if someone started painting adoring portraits of a victorious hiatler or something, sure - fark 'em up - there's limits.  But past that, leave it alone.  Like dragging politics into a non-pol... oh shiat goddamnit!

It's a f*cking bucket, in a fine art museum. If it isn't part of an exhibit, guess what!

I hate to say it, but I feel like these attacks make the opposite point to me. The art is one of a kind, irreplaceable, and enriches the world. There are 8 billion people and counting, and most of them are pretty useless.

I don't want to see people suffer, but we sure as shiat could use less of them.

Is there, though? The news is talking about the subject. How much would a commercial cost to run in all of Western media during prime time and on their webpages? Probably not what it cost for some soup, potatoes, and some legal fees. They're up against companies with billions and billions to spend. They're not even harming the art. They're targeting pieces behind glass.

I mean, shiat. Some guy set himself on fire in front of the Supreme Court in April and hardly anyone even mentions it. This is, ahem, small potatoes compared to THAT cost.

2022-10-23 5:28:24 PM
I suppose there's.a bit of precedent w/r/t to using potato-based foods for making a Dadaistic statement.
I think a Ginsberg quote is in order:

"...who threw potato salad at CCNY lecturers on Dadaism
and subsequently presented themselves
on the granite steps of the madhouse
with shaven heads and harlequin speech of suicide,
demanding instantaneous lobotomy..."

Copies don't teach or show you as much as originals. Copies are mass manufactures. Origanals show you how it was done and how to do the same thing, but differently and new.

When they chained themselves in the road during the Tour de France i had previously thought the Tour de France cyclists were very laid back and like golf they were expected to try to act classy for the most part. Some of the cyclists looked like they had to be held back from tearing up the protestors.

A copy is a photograph of a photocopy of a photocopy. It may be art, but I know I don't like it as much as our genuine treasures, which can not be replaced for True Artists since Andy Warhol announced the death of real fame and celebrity.

I mean they knew that the painting was protected so they didn't do any real damage and they needed that. And they got people's attention. I think that was a success. I mean you could argue that it's not going to make a difference but that's really not their fault is it? It's not like the oil companies were going to stop new drilling but this is made them Double Down

I do like that they've been choosing artworks that are protected by glass. So they're not causing damage. But they ARE getting a quote in the papers saying "science says we're not going to be able to feed our families in 2050." Not sure why they're gluing themselves to walls though.

No one likes Thomas Kinkade so no one's going to pay attention. I mean let's be honest this is more than most of us are doing to combat climate change. Considering the threat that climate change poses to so many people there's very little they could really do that wouldn't be justifiable

Nor will damaging a painting stop oil companies from producing petrochemicals.  But here we are.  Rich white people intentionally wasting food at a time when there are food shortages, just for the sake of sending a message to the wrong recipients.

I hate these protesters even though i agree that we are in a climate catastrophe. I don't even care they've (so far) selected works behind protective glass.

The urge to burn fossil fuels and make plastics isn't the fault of van gogh or monet, and attacking art just makes me mad.

I looked into this after the event go incident and it turns out they are quite an effective political force. They actually are making changes in England because of them. So to say that they aren't doing anything useful I can't agree with that because they're getting results. Now I'll admit that the results are a moratorium on new drilling leases which isn't a lot but it's something. And it's probably more than everyone in here biatching about them is doing

They should throw food on a Jackson Pollock painting, to see if they can improve it.
