Bureaucrats that run sports societies are, by their very nature, petty. They are one of the few sets of creatures that are worse than parents in youth sports --- worse than soccer Moms, worse than little league Dads, even worse than hockey Dads. They are self-important hangers on, lickspittles. In summary, FIFA.

FYI typical curling dues for one member a season is around $250 to $500 depending on the club. some do per a night, or all inclusive, which also includes access to free beer taps for the season.

the Madison Curling club which allows for self serve beer taps as part of the dues typically spends around $15000 a year on beer. as a member I considered it a personal challenge to drink my dues in beer.

the dispute with the GNCC of members to pay $34 per a member in dues, includes a subscription to USA curling magazine, club listing in the directory, and bonspiel listings in all publications

they are just greedy misers

WTF? why hire the guy if he was facing allegations like that ? better to avoid bad press that hiring him would in variably lead to. but here we are.

Because every single "USA <sport>" organization is rotten from the inside out. Remember that a few years ago, USA Gymnastics tried to appoint someone who had ties to Larry Nassar, and then tried to hand-wave it away when when people complained, until it became clear that even Simone Biles was probably just going to quit. I believe it was USA Swimming that was forced to have its "Safe Sport" (hah!) director step down when it was revealed she had a previous relationship with one of the first coaches that was investigated for sexual abuse.

I mean, the US obviously isn't alone in this - witness the mess that is Hockey Canada right now - but people on the boards of major sports organizations truly believe that they are gods, and anyone (even athletes) criticizing them are just being super-sensitive crybabies.

Jesus, does anybody actually keep score by the end of the night?

Why bother? The only point of having a winning team is so they can pay for the beers after.
