FTA: Unlike Republican voters in suburbs and the cities, rural voters care about what we might call "geographic inequity" - the idea that rural areas receive less than their fair share from the government, are ignored by politicians, and are mocked and derided in popular culture. Without these beliefs, the urban-rural political divide would not be as vast as it is today.

Ok. Two things.

1) Don't be assholes and you won't be treated like assholes.
2) Not getting your fair share from government? SOUNDS LIKE SOCIALIZMS!

I'm gonna be charitable. It's poor education, indoctrination from family, a news media that has completely failed at the simple test of normalzing crazy racist hate, and never having actually met anyone that the GOP wants to hurt.

/spoiler, the GOP wants to hurt all the people that vote for them
//just because of the above these people don't realize it

Oh, so it's because they're factually incorrect.  Checks out.  Vote for bullshiatters because you believe in absolute bullshiat. No wonder you're mocked and derided in popular culture for doing so, and in turn making everyone else's life shiattier because you are literally unaware that you already have more say than the majority AND WANT MORE.

Their fair share?  If anything their communities are heavily subsidized by the urban areas they hate so much.

Why resentful rural Americans vote Republican

Let's see...
They're uneducated?
They're racist?
They're easily duped?
They're attracted to the first shiny thing they see?
They're short-sighted?
They resent those who have done better than them?

Feel free to add to the list.

As far as I can remember, I've voted for any and every measure that benefits rural residents, particularly agricultural measures. They're my fellow Americans. They're my fellow human beings. They're important to this country's ongoing infrastructure.

But they keep voting against me.

Three things.

30 Rural states receive way more money than they put in - and rural areas receive more than they put in inside states.  For instance, there was a plan afoot to try and kick Chicago out of Illinois because it was "Stealing from good, conservative, rural Illinois".  So they did a study to prove it.  Turns out that the only counties getting less than they paid in were Chicago and its immediately abutting counties.  The ones in Chicago's penumbra were essentially zeroing out, and everyone else were massive moochers.  All of the sudden, talk by the leeches about kicking out their host went away for some reason...

2022-10-21 10:32:14 AM
Because the GOP promises rurals that at least Black, Hispanic, and Asian people will all be kept below them, hierarchically, and as long as there are people down below them in the figurative bilge, rural folk don't mind the accommodations in steerage nearly as much.

It's really that base and petty, and has been for thousands of years.

They are takers that resent the handouts that city dwellers give them because living in a rural community is not economically viable with the advent of large corporate farms and requires funneling money from productive members of society to meth-addled deadbeats?

As someone who grew up in redneck WI and moved to one-a-them scary cities after turning 18, those hicks absolutely earn the impression city dwellers have for them. Most of my rural and small town relatives are pridefully ignorant filth who resent the fact they are seen for what they are. F__k them. If they don't like being viewed as stupid hicks they should consider knocking it off with the stupid hick bulls__t.

First concerns redistribution, or the belief that rural areas don't receive their fair share of government resources and benefits.

Rural areas generally have a much lower tax base so in effect, they receive what they put in to the system (if not more)

Second is representation, or the perception that most politicians ignore rural residents.

See above.

I lived in Missouri where the rural areas had much more of a say on things than the urban areas.

The audacity of rural people saying they aren't "getting their fair share" despite the system already giving them more than a proportionate level of representation is infuriating. Especially when urban and suburban areas are already subsidizing their whole existence.

There has never been a point where urban protesters gave a single shiat about what's happening on the farm.

There have been numerous points where rural protesters gave far too many shiats--absolite diarrhea--about what's happening in the city. Remember all those Fun Bombs at abortion clinics? Oh and worrying about litter boxes in schools? Oh and gender-affirming care. Oh and gay people. Oh and....

/And yes, income equality affects literally city and farm. But let's ignore all of those protests.

2022-10-21 10:38:52 AM
Well, why not? Do you produce anything? Farming? Well that's about 2% of the population now-a-days. Ya don't make anything, ya don't come up with ideas, ya just sell to each other.

And you're rude. This morning, KO had a clip on his podcast of the Oklahoma governor's debate where the democrat brings up the violent crime statistics the incumbent governor has, showing they're higher than NY State - and he laughs at her and gets the crowd to laugh at her. She was factually 100% correct, and they mock her for bringing that up. That's what I see when I see rural folks. They're rude, petty, and stupid.

"WHOA WHOA WHOA WHY IS OUR STATE A BURNED OUT HELLHOLE OVERNIGHT!?"

I could see how they feel that way.  Take for example threads about electric cars and mass transit.  There's no infrastructure for electric cars and not enough masses for mass transit, but Farkers from large cities keep on insisting that the entire country should abandon cars completely and go with mass transit and electric cars.  Ignoring the fact that what works in a large city does not work in rural areas, and what works in rural areas does not work in large cities.  But oversimplification of complex issues lead to ridiculous conclusions.

And then the GQP swoops in and poisons their minds with fascist ideology.  Mixing the "we want to help rural communities" message with "here are the minorities we want you to hate".

I support the Democrats because I want to protect LGBT and ethnic/religious minority rights and liberties, and I want UBI and single-payer healthcare.  Since it is the closest thing we have to a viable leftist party.  But I can easily understand how people can be turned off by the words and actions of some Democrats.

They're about 97.9% dumb farking hicks.   I say that because they say shiat like the "gubmint" and "damn lib'rul city folk" while they have their other hand out for their free federal disability and farm subsidy checks.  Meemaw would be dead without her taxpayer bought oxygen tanks and her fat son would have had a heart attack if not for his free blood pressure meds and his diabeetus insulin.

I live in a rural area. The reason the goobers around me vote for Republicans is that they hate that the world is moving on without them. They're mentally stuck in the 1950s when minorities knew their place. The fact that women, Blacks, the LGBTQ+ community, all flavors of non-Christians, and other folks all have rights and privileges they once didn't have offends them. To them "equality" means "you've taken something away from me." So they're bitter, they're angry, and they figure if they're going to be miserable, they're going to make all the people they hate miserable too.

It's pathetic.

Why resentful rural Americans vote Republican

Because they're resentful and rural?

Unlike Republican voters in suburbs and the cities, rural voters care about what we might call "geographic inequity" - the idea that rural areas receive less than their fair share from the government, are ignored by politicians,

As usual, bullshiat. Rural areas in the US get far more from the federal government than they put in. The electoral college ensures you get way more than your fair share of political representation.

and are mocked and derided in popular culture.

Because you deserve it for the previous two points. You're delusional backwards assholes with a system that favors you and you still whine constantly. Why do you think anyone with a brain leaves you as fast as they can?

2022-10-21 10:42:39 AM
Yeah, well, I'm resentful that I'm not considered a "Real American" because I live in a city. I'm resentful that not one national reporter has come to my local diner to ask for my opinion over my eggs and bacon. And I'm resentful that every damn thing I buy has high fructose corn syrup in it because we're subsidizing rural corn farmers. Why is there sugar in bread and pasta sauce?

It works both ways, morans.

The irony is that rural areas get far more than their fair share, and have been screeching about it since forever.   You can go back to rural electrification as part of the New Deal.   Every modern convenience from clean water to indoor plumbing has been paid for by urban areas and consumed by rural chuckleheads over their strenuous objections.

"Fair share."  Fark off, red state dead beats.

Rural doesn't mean agricultural.Just about all rural people have nothing to do with farms.
Most are working for companies headquartered in blue states for slave wages and required to own a vehicle for employment that exists many miles away. They are basically blue state slave labor.

I can't feel bad about people that embraced ignorance instead of knowledge and understanding.

It's racism pure and simple. They've been brainwashed to believe that cities are controlled by Antifa terrorists. I grew up in coastal California and about 20 years ago I went to Kansas to visit my brother. We went to a fair in Southeastern Kansas and I saw actual tattooed Nazis there. There were multiple Nazi groups walking around the fair. How did I know they were Nazis you might ask? They were walking around shirtless with big swastikas tattoos like Edward Norton in America History X. I asked my brother about it and he told me not to stare and leave them alone. Apparently they were tolerated there, so much so that they felt that they should openly display who they were.

TLDR: They're Nazis or don't care about Nazis living next door to them.
