Generally, I don't tend to enjoy Sacha Baron Cohen's performances.

But I saw him in Martin Scorsese's "Hugo", and I thought he did a very good job there.  So I guess it depends on the script and the director.

Anyway, it's a matter of personal taste.  Lots of people like his stuff, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they mesh a supernatural villain with a technological hero.

I thought we already knew he was playing Mephisto given his appearances in Wandavision and Doctor Strange 2?

I really like this choice.

The whole "stepping into another hero's shoes", instead of doing your own thing, has an Ocean's 8 vibe.  Would rather see something totally original, but that probably wouldn't be projected to sell as many tickets.  Like anything else though, everything depends on how the story is executed.

But I do hope Mephisto plays a role in the extended MCU, and isn't just a villain isolated to the single movie.  Fun character.

Sheesh
I wonder who Tom Green will play in the Marvel Universe.

Given the vibes, Klarion (from Young Justice) would seem to be more along the Borat wheelhouse.

\Have never seen Cohen in a serious role

With Mephisto's bishounen like hair, they should have gotten a Japanese actor or something.

If he puts on his drama pants and sticks to the script yes.

If not no.

Check him out as the policeman in Martin Scorsese's 'Hugo'.

This is a love letter from Scorsese to the (very) early movie industry, set in the early 1900s in Paris.  Fictionalized, but with a strong foundation in real history.  A gorgeous movie, well worth watching.

Cohen plays a supporting character, a strict cruel policeman who manages to become a little more than he seems.  I don't like Cohen, generally speaking, but I was favorably impressed by his performance here.

Ben Kingsley has a major role.

Mephisto seems like a weird villain for a tech-based hero like Ironheart.

Nope. Just a Star Wars redux. "The power to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force". Tech vs magic.

He's actually a pretty skilled actor, and I think this is fantastic casting. I didn't like him until I saw him in Sweeny Todd, where he manages to sing well, portray two sides of a very two-faced character convincingly, and yet still steal the scenes he was in without taking too much away from the lead (Depp).

So yeah, this will be interesting.

After getting over the original seeming bait and switch in the story I really enjoyed it a lot. And it definitely defeats the "Scorsese only makes movies about mobsters " trope.

Truthfully, I like those kind of love letters more than crap like Lala Land

He was in that movie when Borat and Wolverine and Catwoman were being persecuted by Maximus.

If true, this should be pretty friggin' sweet.  Watching him lead Conservatives down a line of reasoning to their own downfall is exactly what you want from the Great Tempter Mephisto.

I think this could be good. Mephisto enjoys being evil. He delights in tricking people by making them desperate to make unfair bargains.

Snide, smug, and superior are well within his wheelhouse. That is not a criticism. I have to tamp down those impulses constantly.

Iron Heart is something I've looked forward to. I hope Disney doesn't f it up the like they've f'd up most of the rest Marvel & Star Wars fare.

"Sacha Baron Cohen is Mephesto"

DAMNIT!

I read that as Mr. Sinister and had to double take.

If that could at all be true who would you think ought to do it?

Even tho I think Sinister is a nobody villain Michael Sheen would make him cool.

It's better than all the heroes just fighting evil versions of themselves.... Hulk vs Evil Hulk (Abomination), Ant Man vs Evil Ant Man (Yellowjacket), Iron Man vs Evil Iron Man (Iron Monger), Dr Strange vs Evil Dr Strange (Kaicelus), Black Panthe vs Evl Black Panther (Killmonger), etc, etc...  Better to fight someone that is different maybe?
