Amazing to think that, at one point in NHL history, some players were averaging 150 point seasons.

My wife's locker was across the hall from his in high school, silly girl ended up with me.
Her sister wouldn't dance with him at a school dance, he was too geeky, my FIL is still pissed at her for it.

Crazy to see that at 38, in the dead puck era no less, he still put up 61 points his final season.

?_?

A player has scored 150 or more points in a single season a total of 16 times in NHL history. Gretzky did it nine (9) times in 11 years, Mario did it 4 times in eight years, and both Espo and Stevie Y did it once. B.Nicholls also hit 150 one year with Gretzky feeding him tap-ins during his first year in LA.

The only players to ever average 150+ points over any 3+ season period are Gretzky and Lemieux.

Wayner still has more assists than any other player has total points. That's always such a crazy stat to me.

Kind of like how in baseball if you subtract all of Hank Aaron's home runs, he would still have over 3,000 hits.

If you count playoff goals, Gretzky broke 1,000.

//technically correct
///the best kind of correct

I wonder if the scouting reports at the time hinted at his future greatness or if he suddenly blew up just before taking the NHL by storm?

/wasn't around here then
//they likely knew about it during his time in the junior circuit is my guess

He was lighting up the junior circuit even before going to the OHA. Everyone knew he was destined for greatness from the start.

When I was 13, I played baseball against Gretzky & Brantford in the Toronto Star Peewee Baseball tournament at the Canadian National Exhibition. We all knew who he was then & that he was destined for the NHL - he was 12 years old.

There were stories in the Toronto Star about him scoring a zillion goals per game & that was before the interwebs, social media & sports camps.

My uncle played against him when Gretzky was still playing for Brantford. He's told me that he was absolutely unreal even back then.

940 if include the WHA. Which is pretty good but not tops. That honor goes to Gordie Howe (975).

My favorite crazy 99 stat is that the Gretzky brothers are the highest scoring brothers in NHL history.
Brent Gretzky had 4 NHL points.

\ Sutters are the highest scoring family, all members included

He was playing against 10 year olds when he was 6.
By time he was 10 he was well known in hockey circles, articles written about him etc...

Even more amazing when you imagine this before social media.
