Get used to it. Jellyfish have been thriving in the warmer oceans.

Humans yell "Cannonball!" before jumping into water.
These jellyfish yell "Cannonball!" before jumping onto land.

Stung once at Jones Beach on Long Island as a young boy.

It was all I needed never to go swimming in the ocean ever again.

Never been stung, but even a shark attack wouldn't keep me out of the water.

We used to vacation on Jekyll Island. Several of us -- not me -- were stung one day. (Not badly. 2 days later the kids were back in the water.)

When I was a wee lad in the early 80s we took a family trip to St Simon's. I was in the water less than a minute and was stung on my leg, right arm, and my back. It was my first time in the ocean so I just thought "gee, the ocean kinda stings a bit. Parents noticed the patterns when I got out of the water. Then the real pain started.

Still love the ocean though.

/also stung by a bee at Fort Fredricka the next day

I think its a bay nettle, the tiny colored smudge you can barely see on the left side was actually a tiny shrimp taking a ride. Apparently they get them.
