Rewinding the $2,000,000,000,000 giveaway would too much. Much better to take $300 a month from seniors

I wish iat was just $2 trillion.  They're looking at a $30 trillion hole now.  And it's getting deeper every day.

Is it insane though. Is there any indication that the debt payments are hampering economic growth?

Anyone want to break out the old study that said a national debt over 100% of GDP meant less growth*

Yeah but are the corporations ok?

So lets go back to 1960's marginal tax rates.

If we had invested what Larry Kudlow spent on cocaine in the 1980's in and S&P 500 fund, we'd have enough to pay off the national debt and throw a hooker and cocaine party to celebrate.

They'd probably just proxy for an Amazon bid and take a cut.

I think at this point we'd have to pay Mexico to take them

I still agree with the trumpers that the only way to save capitalism is to nationalize everything so the woke people don't get hired as executives.

The No Ted Cruz clause would be a deal breaker.  It's ten times a much if we include Ted in the transaction.

Kind of a sad joke but I recall commenting back when Uvalde happened that we should just sell TX back to Mexico but they probably would actually charge us for it lol.

It was stolen, so it should be given back.

You've got to spin it like an HGTV show about flipping property.

aleister_greynight: So lets go back to 1960's marginal tax rates.

Tax code is such that the super rich don't really earn money. They just borrow against paper gains.

Need to create a net worth tax if you really want a progressive tax system.

When Obama left office, it was just over $21b. That took 40 years at minimum to amass.

According to this, when Obama left office (end of FY 2016), the total debt was $19.5 trillion.

When Bush left office (end of FY 08) the total debt was $10T.

When Clinton left office, total debt was $5.6T.

When HW left office, it was $4T.

When Reagan left office, it was $2.6T.

When Carter left office, it was just under a trillion.

Basically, Presidents ALWAYS seem to just about double the debt - unless they raise taxes while the economy is booming.

Unfortunately for those in Mexico trying to get to a better source of income than what's available in Mexico...  Given the Texan government, I doubt the rest of Mexico would suddenly gain a better economy.  I figure that the Texan standard of living would drop to the Mexican level.

The government and power elites of Mexico don't do a good job of serving the people of Mexico.  It seems to be just about what the GOP wants for the U.S.  I also don't call the GOP a "conservative party" anymore.  It seems to be the Regressive Party now.

Regressivism is what conservativism has always been. No need to try a "No true Scotsman" approach to it.

For some reason that phrase makes me feeling especially stabby. It's right up there with 'out of an abundance of caution'

Just some facts:

US Deficit:
2016 : $600 Billion (Obama's last year)
2020:  $3.1 Trillion  (Trump increased deficit over Obama every year to finally 5 TIMES bigger)
2022 (est): ~$1 Trillion

This has been the pattern since at least the 1980's... EVERY democratic president cut the deficit during their term (Clinton left with a surplus).  EVERY Republican president exploded the deficit during their term (they also left office with a failing economy).

Yeah but he's an old white with glasses and a perpetually dour manner, so he looks the part, and that is after all the only thing that matters.
