I had to quit being a substitute teacher because of my PTSD.
I knew it wasn't a very  good idea, but for years, I kept thinking that I could power through everything, or something.   You can't.  You just get more and more rattled.
It was the worst idea for me anyway.  I need to be in a job where I never speak to anyone.

Since I don't have rotten crotch fruit I'd like a tax refund if I'm not gonna get a student loan refund. One or the other. Happy to pay for your rotten kids to read and do math. But shouldn't have to to pay to provide services to you.

Here in the UK, mainstream teaching pay isn't terrible, but the workload and stress are horrendous.  A huge number of educators are on meds for stress or depression.

Now I teach in a college (post 16 education).  I'm doing exactly the same job in terms of description for slightly less money, but with almost zero stress.  I'd never go back into schools - I value my mental health too much.

What in the actual fark. I'm advocating for free education for whatever. I trained in pole setting as a teenager and economics and philosophy as a college kid and law later. I can pretty much do almost anything from welding an augur to writing a court brief. I'm not really focused so things get messy. But I'm saying free open education should be part of society. Either I'm lacking in communication skills or you're lacking in reading comprehension. I'll accept either

It's WAY more than the pay.  They need to be shielded from shiathead kids who want nothing more than to entertain themselves by disrupting everyone else's experience, and from parent who will never admit that their child in an asshole, much less do anything about it.

By five years 80% of teachers have left the field.  I made it four as a math teacher (Algebra I/II, Geometry, Pre-Cal, Stats) because administration is too spineless to do any of the above.  Those of us who have the skillset to go back to private employment usually do.  The rest get a Master's Degree and get into administration so that they can be out of the line of fire.

Seriously, all the shiat rolls downhill to the classroom teacher because everyone in offices are afraid of noisy parents.  And it will never improve because parents think they know better than actual professionals.

The implication was all education should be paid for. Not just a select few. Also property taxes shouldn't be the source. Poor communities shouldn't get the ass end of education

Alright let's sort this. I'm for UBI, a living minimum wage, teachers getting paid well even if most are crappy, students should get free education, there needs to be a progressive tax scheme or capitalism should die, pick one. People need healthcare and housing. The remnants of colonialism need to die. Religious fascism needs to die.

There. Any objections?

I'd need more than a better salary to teach in a fascist state.  I love to teach but now it's hard enough in a sane school district.

Why are my property taxes so high when my kids graduated years ago!

The olds in my city (pop. 750k) pulled this crap about a decade ago and it worked. They no longer have to pay the school division portion of their property tax bill. It's totally insane. Who do they think will be taking care of them in their old(er) age?

We have an election coming up and at least a few candidates have promised to raise taxes. I'm not excited about that, but it's necessary and about time. Hopefully they rescind that old decision too.

Because you want the schools in your town to be the best around, so that when and if you do decide to sell, you'll have families with school-aged kids lined up around the block to pay above asking price.

Here too.  I got mine!  Who paid for your goddamned education?

We used to pass the annual budget at a town meeting.  The Tea Partiers brushed up on their Roberts Rules and ran the table before anybody understood what was happening.  They called a vote to cut $4 million out of a $19 million budget and everybody raised their hands without knowing what that meant.  People were screaming, "Put your hands down."  The town manager's staff was in tears.  The next day was a bloodbath of pink slips and it seemed like every other house had a for sale sign on it that summer as anyone with children fled.  The town charter was changed to adopt the budget by referendum.

We now have one of the oldest populations in the state and the school system flipped from a white majority student body to a minority majority (how's that for a contradiction in terms?) student body as the town was red-lined.  Ironically, the town's minority neighborhoods are wealthier than the white neighborhoods, probably due to the age of their residents.  The school test scores aren't great but it's still a safe, stable community with great amenities.  If I wouldn't get reported for stalking, I'd record all of the Black, Asian, Indian, and Middle Eastern parents that dote on their children when I am stuck behind the school buses.  They drive or walk them to the bus stop, speak to the bus drivers, wave and blow kisses to their children as the bus leaves, all of which makes me believe these kids will succeed.

The people are breaking long before the demand does, thanks to all you good consumers.  I saw this years ago, and that's why I don't have a job now.  I can't take it anymore.  I hate this culture. You know what you need?  Therapy.  A doctor.  A man to fix your car.  The rest of it is big sloppy consumer laziness.  I don't work for that.

The ability of humans to meet the demands of millions of endlessly grasping pigs isn't going to happen, no matter how many math problems economists do, there in there air-conditioned offices, dreaming of more riches.  If only the worker pods  could be controlled better!  They're so bad for THE ECONOMY!  Why can't we just kill them?
I hope it continues just like this, and everything falls apart like Idiocracy.  I hope that advertisers keep selling endless piles of shiat, but it can never be delivered.  Americans will be wailing like banshees  when they can't celebrate themselves in the style to which they have become accustomed.

Is it good for you too, Beezy?  You better hoard some stuff now, because it's going going going.

For every year of teaching, remove 1/5th of education debt. Pay off student loans in 5 years while collecting a salary. Make a national list of needed teachers and locations, and send them where needed, including moving costs. Cheapest way to get teachers at the big desks in the classrooms. Yes, some may balk at being assigned to Frostbit Buttocks, AK, but it's only for five years, so find a thermal jockstrap/bra and start packing. You're the one who signed for the loan instead of volunteering and getting the GI Bill, bucko. (I graduated with my Master's w/o any debt.)

If the oppressors could eliminate art and science and higher math and music and history and languages and all that helps people become more civilized, educated and able to think critically, they would do so in half a heartbeat.

Or as George Carlin put it, "Just smart enough to run the machines".
