Prediction: they are going to strip Verstappen of the 2021 title which was a complete fiasco in the first place, using this violation to set right the mistake that originally handed it to him.

And they have very carefully combined this with the surprise decision to award full points for the shortened Japanese GP instead of half points as all the teams expected, a decision that made Verstappen this year's champion already. The timing on this is no coincidence, and I think was decided before the race and before conditions threw the full points award into doubt. So Verstappen loses one title, gets another one, everybody puts 2021 behind them, and F1 moves on.

By the way: the person who wrote the rule that was interpreted to allow full points to be awarded was Michael Masi. The same man whose mistake as race director in Abu Dhabi last year handed the title to Verstappen.

I just looked it up and they dropped all charges against the Red Bull heir for killing the police officer so I guess exceeding the salary cap is kids' stuff.

F1 has moved on. It's people like yourself who have not.

While it would be hilarious if the penalty for exceeding the budget cap for Red Bull was a points penalty large enough to see Max lose last year's title (which would only need to be 8.5 points); I think I have a better shot of winning the lottery tonight than there is of that happening.

I think what's most likely is that they lose constructor's title points (which Red Bull has openly admitted they don't care much about), lose wind tunnel time (the worse you finish in the constructor's points, the more wind tunnel time you're allowed), and a hefty fine.

I have to admit, it's quite amusing watching Michael Masi's parting gift become the monkey's paw it was always destined to be.

This is FIA so part of me is waiting to hear that Red Bull is going to be penalized 15 standings points in 2021, spread across their two drivers evenly.

Really, as long as the FIA and Red Bull have to eat sh*t for it, I'm good with whatever happens regarding this.  They wanted to make those deals with the Devil, so they shouldn't be surprised that he's coming to collect.

That's certainly... a take.

RB will get slapped with a fine, probably around 5-10 million for the cost overrun, and a official notice of the procedural violations.
