I don't remember when I've seen something so enchanting. Love it.

If it's anything like the LFL's around me, it's soon to be overflowing with Dan Brown novels, trashy romance paperbacks, and lots of "You're not a good enough Christian yet" self-help books.

The important part is that the good books (and the knowledge and/or wisdom they hold) are shared.

Sadly the only books were romance novels and outdated copies of books we stuff the box with like papeback and books destined for the trash

I like it. But it needs better books.

Ok, that's amazing.

Also, the little free libraries in my neighborhood rock. Picked up a copy of Kitchen Confidential not long ago, and today saw one with a Joy of Cooking.

I'm planning on dropping off a bunch of classic horror paperbacks this month, starting with Dracula, Frankenstein, and Weaveworld.

When my eldest watched the show she was young enough that she still talked dumb and for a while she called him "Lord T-Rex"

While all things must die, I'd be thrilled if my corpse brings life to someone like this tree is.

/Consider becoming an organ donor.

[cheerfully]

Well f*ck you too, and I hope you live forever in agonizing pain.

That's best use for a cottonwood tree. Those things are the worst. They're fine out in nature but I want them nowhere near my house. All year long they're dropping stuff: starting in spring with those wretched sticky bud covers, then summer cotton, leaves in the fall, and in winter when there's nothing left, sticks. Terrible trees to have near a house.
Oaks aren't great if they're over the house. In autumn the acorns drop and they sound like small caliber gunfire against the roof. For a month. It's like pretending i live in a large American city, only the 'shots' aren't accompanied by sirens.
And definitely don't park under an oak tree. For about a month in spring they constantly spew little sap droplets. I found this out when every morning the car would be completely covered in sap and I'd have to wash the windows before I could drive it.

What is a good shade tree to live with? Maybe a maple? Poplar?

A male Ginkgo? But even then you still have the pollen... How about a fake tree made from a metal pole. It could be used as a street light, or cell tower or even hold solar panels. Anything living is going to drop stuff that bothers some people. Of course you would have to electrify it so birds would not dare perch on it and poop on your car.

I won't care; I'll be dead. Just like that cottonwood.

Fantastic! This made my day. That's all.

I'm a little surprised it isn't bigger. Cottonwoods get gigantic at the base so I'd expect a 110 year-old one to be over 10' wide.

/had an old cottonwood taken down about 10 years ago which was about 50-60 years old
//was about 6' in diameter
