(CNN)   OK, guys. Need you to help me out with this. Republicans have convinced me that Biden's infrastructure program is nothing but socialism, and socialism is bad. But yet, they're all asking for money now that comes from it. Have they become socialists?   (cnn.com) divider line

"This program is terrible, but I still want my cut so I can be a hero to all the people it's supposed to help!"

Isn't "fixing the damn potholes/roads" one of the complaints the MIGOP had in that awful attack ad where Gram died alone?

Are they socialists for asking the governor to fix the damn roads?

2022-10-07 11:02:49 AM
Anything the Democrats do is "socialism" to the GOP, stop listening to themk

I believe the word you are looking for is "Hypocrite".

that's it Republicans are Socialists I'm totally on the fence about voting 3rd party, now.

/hork

2022-10-07 11:20:49 AM
Republicans don't actually know what socialism is or what it means. Socialism is just a magic word they invoke to rebuke their spiritual enemies. It's a meaningless collection of mouth noises and that's all.

2022-10-07 11:21:24 AM
Ooooh...that's an easy one.  They're hypocrites.

2022-10-07 11:22:15 AM
You take the handouts to convince ppl to elect you so you can stop the handouts.

2022-10-07 11:23:38 AM
Yeah but when they're asking for it it's for white people and we know that's not the socialism one.

2022-10-07 11:23:49 AM
They just want to make sure that money is going to the "right" people, not those "others" who shouldn't get support anyway.

And just for fun, let them define "socialism".

hubiestubert: "This program is terrible, but I still want my cut so I can be a hero to all the people it's supposed to help!"

No, it's terrible for "those people" but it's fine for hardworking (*cough*) people like themselves and people they deign to label as hardworking.

Conservatives. In general, are the biggest welfare queens you've ever seen.

I remember a political cartoon in the 80s. Ronald Reagan is standing like a king on a balcony, speaking to the masses. "Shall I cut taxes?", he asks. The crowd roars "Yes!" "Shall I cut spending?" "Yes!" Then he asks, "And whose spending shall I cut?" The crowd, in unison: "Somebody else's!" Reagan walks away saying to one of his aides, "I'm glad we all agree."

It is not socialism to take what I never wanted to take, but i need to make sure I spend it on my priorities, instead of your priorities.

Greed is Good.

They should all have to stand in line in front of a Presidential seal and thank President Biden as he hands them a comically oversized check with his signature on it.

And film of that should be broadcast every day for a week in their state/district leading up to election day.

Don't focus on whether it makes any sense. It's never going to make any sense. Did trump make any sense? Of course not, but he still got enough votes.

They are fairly open and honest about being hypocrites when it comes to pleading for handouts from Democrats while planning the next opportunity to stab them.

Red states rely heavily on "socialism" and the residents that live there to survive.

I guess they could stop those handouts, subsidies and welfare payments if they were true blue patriots

It's the same energy as "The only moral abortion is my abortion." Usually we think of cognitive dissonance as a bad thing where we're forcing our brain to reconcile mutually exclusive ideas with all the psychic damage that causes, but at this point I think American conservatives of all stripes basically need to have a bit of cognitive dissonance in order for their brains to function at all. Albeit quite poorly.

Of course they are, this is the Republican MO. Rail against progress passed by Democrats, then demand to be included in it since their constituents like it. THEN take credit for what the Democrats did.

somedude210: Isn't "fixing the damn potholes/roads" one of the complaints the MIGOP had in that awful attack ad where Gram died alone?

Fixing the roads is not socialism.

Paying for fixing the roads is socialism.

Its like the Democratic legislators are America's parents  -- with the Republicans the petulant teenage kids who give them nothing but grief, offer no solutions, but always have their hands out.

2022-10-07 12:01:13 PM
Have they become socialists?

no, just common hypocrites. Also known as "Republicans"

2022-10-07 12:07:07 PM
It's only socialism if it helps society. The GOP will ensure it doesn't help anyone but themselves and their donors.

Republican Strategy - count on thinking your base voters are scared, white and none too bright.

Has anyone brought up how they're self-serving hypocrites yet? Because Republicans are self-serving hypocrites. Now, not all self-serving hypocrites are Republicans and not all Republicans are self-serving hypocrites, but you must admit that the Venn diagram as a large overlap between "Republicans" and "self-serving hypocrites" so I will take liberties with "Republicans are self-serving hypocrites" sounding like a total overlap.

I would just love it if Democratic leadership leaned into this a whole lot more. The Republicans are just handing them ammunition.

It's socialism when the schmrschmrs benefit from it, It's necessary government spending when I and Real Americans like myself benefit from it. Stupid liberal.

Incorrect

Government fixing roads is socialism
People fixing the roads and charging you to use them is Capitalism.
People collectively getting together to fix roads is Communism.

These are the three basic economic systems.

Yes absolutely, if you voted against the bill you shouldn't be allowed to ask special favors!

Here are the six House Democrats who broke from their party to vote against the bill:
Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York
Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York
Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota
Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts
Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan

Tarl3k: Of course they are, this is the Republican MO. Rail against progress passed by Democrats, then demand to be included in it since their constituents like it. THEN take credit for what the Democrats did.

It is even more preposterous than that. They not only rail against it being passed in the first place and then take credit for it, they continue to rail against it once passed and threaten to kill it and abolish iat and warn their constituents about how evil it is, all the while taking credit for the benefits it provides their constituents. And when faced with the actual power to kill it, they don't, but still talk about how evil and bad it is for everyone.

Even worse, the constituents are eating it up. They talk about how evil it is and how it must be abolished while enjoying the benefits of it. They don't see the irony in any of this.

You know what the opposite of Socialism is? Vladimir Putin, the warlord of warlords, only he's a total poseur way in over his head. Gangster of all the gangsters. Mob boss of all the mob bosses.
He even more terrible than that because he's not a 4 dimensional chess player, he's a lot more like Trumpy, a complete pretender.

Socialism is what the New Deal was all about; if it weren't for that, this country could've gone the way of Fascist Italy or Nazi Germany.
