It's about time there's an effective counter to Sinclair's bullshiat.

That's nothing - they weaponized the government to attack their political enemies.

Nobody under age 55 watches local or cable news. Unless there going to promote and broadcast a controversial fire-spitter (they won't), this won't amount to much.

It isn't television news.  It's online-only "newspapers".  Basically what the Russians did in 2016, where they created websites, included some legitimate news, and a whole lot of sketchy editorials or utterly false "news".  TFA even notes how one of the new "newspapers" basically copied and edited a legitimate news article and twisted it into an editorial.

I haven't watched local news in ages. If I'm looking for actionable information, the last thing I need is a rundown of local Christmas tree fires and car accidents.

The very last line in the Axios article:

"Republicans also have exploited the tactic, with conservative outfits such as the company Metric Media and its hundreds of locally branded news outfits pumping out steady streams of politically convenient content."

I don't watch/listen to Savannah, Hoda, or Lester anymore on our local NBC affiliate, WETM 18. 18 is still running the Pillow guy ads and making sure as to not credit Biden with ANY legislative victory. There's no such thing as truth in advertising

"All politics is ultimately local"

Interpret local news through a national messaging lense -- as long as its fact-based news, it seems like an intelligent strategy.

"They" = "Republicans" right?

Because if not then after the Trump years I have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

I had some rando asshat going the wrong way up a one way frontage road screech at me "It's ONE WAAAAAAYYYY!" and it sounded exactly like the Sicilian. I heard it in that voice and it's perfect.

Inconceivable!!

I used to love watching our local news. It was more of a time waster then anything, but I enjoyed knowing what was going on around me. Then Sinclair and Nexstar came in. And now watching it is like - Local Christmas Tree Fires story followed by Why are democrats being so darn mean to trump? followed by car accidents, local scandals....

While I don't necessarily agree with deceiving people, the simple fact is, "they go low, we go high", doesn't cut it when the low keeps getting lower.

It is absolutely criminal for the Democrats to be leveraging the truth like that.  Who do they think they are?

Well Truth does tend to be anti-fascist and a low blow to crime families, but the GOP still has endemic racism going for them.

The pearl clutching from Axios here is incredibly dumb. They could have pointed that out in the lede or the 2nd sentence of the piece, providing incredibly important context, but waited until the very end.  Notice how they also framed it like it was a response to the Democrats' tactic.

It's like they're trying to make this into a Democratic problem, while ignoring that it was Republicans that came up with this bullshiat and have been doing it for years.

What happened to real journalism? My newspapers don't do this shiat. We just print regurgitated press releases and what ever the community bothers to send us like God intended*

*I can't do anything else. I'm only paid to edit the shiat that comes through email not do real reportage. The publisher refuses to pay for real reporting.

With very rare exceptions we contain any slanted material to columnists and letters to the editor. The newspaper having an opinion is generally bad for business.

TFA says they're a network of news websites. Doesn't say anything about the traffic on those websites - for all know, there's fewer people reading those than regular users on Fark.

What a tortured attempt at a pithy comeback.
At least you tried!

Here's a better one:

That's nothing - the GQP weaponized extremists to attack our Capitol and overthrow our government.

/See?  It works because it's true!

On the one hand, I hate stooping to their level.

On the other hand, that's just the game they're making us play now, so they've got nobody to blame but themselves when it turns out we can do it better. Like everything else.

33 and watch our local Hearst station (ABC affiliate). They actually do good local news (and are very well credentialed).
