So naming scandals "something gate" isn't just an annoying American cliché. It's been 50 years people, can't we find a newer scandal to make into an annoying cliché?

The -gate suffix indicates a real scandal. The -ghazi suffix on the other hand indicates a fake scandal. This is more of a -ghazi scandal.

Any time we overly glorify the UK as more enlightened or more civilized...

Even WITHOUT reporting it was always obvious why Morning Show hosts were standing where they were, when they were.  It's the UK version of Derp that blew this up.

I get your point and I'm not suggesting for a second that I buy the Republican BS about Benghazi being a poltical scandal, but the weird reality about what you're saying is that Watergate was a pointless and stupid event (Nixon won in a landslide, he completely didn't need the Watergate breakin, he trashed his own Presidency and reputation for no real reason) while Americans died violently at Benghazi.

The Brits take their queues very seriously. Some pensioners carry bricks in their purses specifically for thrashing queue-jumpers
