I've ordered a tiny Stanley Cup banner to raise at Bub-Ball Arena.

Probably can't actually keep it hanging there because it'll interfere with the game, but still.

Found out they have a special Stanley Cup edition bubble table.  It's like $800+ more than what I paid for this.

Just in time for new bottles of brandy and tequila to be opened, putting up some mancave artwork and hockey artifacts I acquired from a clearance sale of stuff, and comp LA Kings opener tickets for participating in a 5K last month organized by the team.

Walked 3.1 miles in an hour along the cool overcast beach (damn lucky planning -- it had been 100+ degree heat for days and freakishly hot desert storm winds the day before that), plus an extra mile to my parking space, for my goddamn tickets and medal/keychain thingy. I was just 200 yards behind former LA Kings player/radio color commentator Darryl Evans (had GWG in Miracle on Manchester that eliminated Edmonton in '82 playoffs) in pace, so not bad at all for this fat Farker.

/bit ... ominous? ironic? ... my bib number had 99 on it.

_/Wtf is up with the schedule? The Ducks' first game is on the 12th


They've gone back to the thing they were doing in the last few pre-COVID seasons where they have a couple games overseas to start the season.  However, they do them while the rest of the league is finishing up the pre-season.  I'm assuming this is so the participating teams have enough time to get home and rest a bit before starting their seasons in earnest.

It all somehow came together, with the Sharks playing in the Europe games, and the resulting 11am Friday start; I feared I would have to get through the opener sober.  But because shiat happened in the apartment, I have to work from home today.  Goonjuice is ready.

BTW does Barefark avoid the occasional advertisement on Fark that tries to hijack the browser?

My PC's security denies them or closes the page at worst, but it's getting bad lately on Fark. Fortunately don't have the issue on phone and tablet.

/also hate Fark's new top scrolling ad that suddenly grows to half the screen size too on my devices

buckeyebrain: Is the NHL Network feed using virtual ads on the boards, too?  I'm watching on NBC Sports California and the virtual ads are distracting as shiat when they change.


Get used to it because you're going to see those everywhere.

Those of us who watch UEFA Champions League soccer have seen those for a while and they're distracting as hell when you're seeing the main feed and the boards are showing an ad for Pepsi but then they switch to a close up view and the ads are for Playstation, for example. I think it's going to be worse for hockey since the boards are constantly there unlike soccer.

Like most things Hockey Fark related, it started as a typo of Preds, but there's also a TV character named "Perd" so it became a years-long running gag.

Prague is renowned for good beer at a very reasonable price.  Actually, the whole city has a reputation for delivering quality well above its price point if you're a tourist.

Ahh, ok. I was confused because the Devils' final preseason game is tomorrow and their season opener is next Thurs(Fri?). That makes way more sense.

Bleacher Report has the Devils at #24 on the power rankings. Sadly, that's an improvement.


I've been seeing a lot of "Devils are playoff bubble team" in previews lately. I really don't buy it; I view them as somewhere in the mix of situations as Anaheim (team of the future) but last year's Ottawa (still a player or two off, circling and flirting around the playoff cut bunch).

I had considered Detroit the fringe playoff team but think Columbus might take that final spot -- or bump Pittsburgh into that wild card.

/West fringe playoff team I'm picking? Vancouver.

(shakes tiny fist)  I am legit more jealous of those beer prices than I am of... eh, every other team in the NHL's chances for this season bar the Yotes.  And I'm a Habs fan.

You can laugh at the Canadiens throughout the year, Maple Leafs in June, maybe Vegas too. And if the lottery numbers click to Buffalo ... well, Chicago and Arizona are going to be pissed from their race to be worst.
