All of these are single elimination games, correct?

Once Cleveland clinched the AL Central I put a #Windians Post-it Note on the door of a longtime colleague who shares my rooting interests only to find out the next day that he'd be out for a month receiving training elsewhere. I saw him earlier this morning before I was out because he had swung by to grab some gear or whatever so of course I did the idiot guy thing of shoving him in surprise and excitement before he told me he saw the note and laughed. Why us guys do that pushing stuff I'll never know but we do.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

1. Lie to myself that I'll take a long nap/short sleep of a few hours once a few innings have passed so I'm not wiped out for later commitments.

2. Lie to myself that I'll go to sleep immediately once the game is over and not dick around until it is pointless to even lay down at all.

3. Ignore the game and watch it in the morning with the reasonable chance taken that I can avoid the results.

well, for anyone else that might not know, these are best of 3 series with all three potential games being played in the higher seed's park.

Winner of Rays-Guardians would then face the Yankees, Mariners-Jays would face the Astros, Padres-Mets would face the Dodgers and Phillies-Cardinals would face the Braves

..I mean, 20 minutes from first pitch and they don't even have a proper pregame on.. they have Screamin A Smith yelling about Tom Brady

Right? I thought I had my time zones mixed up and was thinking "What time do these games actually start, and when is pre-game?"

I just hope both teams have fun

..and go the full three games, having a 15-inning affair in game 3 while completely depleting the bullpen and using three position players to pitch before either team has to come to the Bronx

More than a few dozen, apparently.

It still sucks that no notice was given at all, though.

I'm pulling for San Diego in the NL.  AL has more likable teams.  But mostly no Yankees or Astros out of the AL, please.

Why do I still have an easier time conceptually with Milwaukee in being in the NL than I do Houston in the AL?

Not too happy that Tampa Bay gets a home field advantage in that they're familiar with not having any fans at their games and I feel good in saying so because 25th in attendance is a vast difference from 28th.

I've watched more baseball in the past month than I have, literally, in the past 3 years.  really getting back into it.

had the privilege of the Cardinals @ Snakes, about  a month ago, of seeing Albert Pujols hiat two HRs.  the crowd of 25K was probably 1/3rd Cardinals fans.  SMDH!

his first HR, I was one of legion of Snakes fans, giving a standing ovation.  Wife goes, "um hey limpdick, why are you clapping?"

"We're seeing an HOFer do HOF things!"  his second, I'd say 90% of the fans were on their feet.

there's a lot of intrigue this postseason

-you have what is likely Pujols' final season
-the Philies are ending an 11 year playoff drought
-the Mariners are ending a -21- year playoff drought in their bid to stop being the ONLY MLB team to have never seen a World Series
-then next week you have the usual suspect Dodgers/Braves/Astros/Yankees

we'll see how the whole league shakes out with the pitch clock next year

Just dropping in to say I have absolutely zero expectations for my Phillies with how streaky the lineup has been all year (and that defense, oof).  But it's just fun to have playoff baseball back in our lives and I think they at least make the short series competitive with Wheeler and Nola as their 1-2.

If you asked me what i wanted, i'd tell you that i want 2 leagues, 2 divisons each, and no worldcards. Just a LCS and WS.

But i'd also want no inter-league (or maybe like the early years, a brief inter-league period against rivals), the DH tossed from the NL again, and call it a day.

And i'd probably be wrong.

I hated on the new playoff format, but i had to admit, it kept the last 2 weeks more interesting than they would have under the old rules, didn't burn anyone who didn't deserve to get burned, and even though my team got the worst of it, i can still look at it and go, "ehh, its fair"

My concern is baseball going like other sports, where they just keep tacking teams on to the playoffs and it becomes a second season of sorts....

Which i'm not entirely against, but don't think it works with the economics of baseball. Don't get me wrong, i think the way hockey does it is great, and is part of the game, but the economics are completely different.  I also think the sport and short term challenges of it lend other leagues to having deeper playoffs making sense.

ANYWAY what i'm saying is MLB, don't touch stuff for a bit, unless its ganking the NL DH rule, or tweaking replay a bit.

(replay stance is home runs in wonky stadiums can be reviewed, fan interference can be reviewed, and then penalize teams financially if they have an outsized number of them so they work to reduce them).

MAYBE i'd be ok with select calls being open to a limited number of challenges in the post season.

I kind of like that the mets and phils running into eachother isn't likely, although quite possible.

As much as we like to hate on eachothers teams, i do think there is a bit of, "ok, fine you are the guys we will pull for after we are out, as long as you weren't the ones who did it" between us.
