(Twitter)   Since Elon Musk is the richest guy in the world, he must know stuff we don't. Let's standardize one app, say X, to handle banking, chat, email, entertainment and secrets. It could be a WeChat for every American. Does anyone see any problems with this?   (twitter.com) divider line

Maybe it's just me, but like 90+% of the time I'm using my phone I'm using a web browser.

So, at least in my case, Safari is my "everything app."

Apart from all the problems already mentioned, Christopher Reeve's Superman should never be associated with Musk in any form or fashion, unless it's in this context, with Musk as the trucker (he may think he's Luthor, but this is far more accurate):

Tony Stark was an narcissistic rich boy who wanted to obsessively control everyone "for their own good", created an AI to do that, and who's only take-away from it wanting to xenocide humans is that he should avoid that particular hiccup on his next attempt.  Said next attempt was essentially pre-crime global legislation that shredded the Bill of Rights pretty much in its entirety, and forced anyone deemed "super-powered" (which in one case included a guy who could use a bow and arrow, so pretty much anyone not a quadrapelegic counted as "super-powered and could be imprisoned indefinitely sans trial) slave labor for Tony personally in his quest to crush any dissent to his global police state.

About all that seperates Stark and Musk is the red and gold SS uniform

Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, etc are all trying to do this.  Which kinda sucks.

We either need one thing that *everyone* uses.  Or need a bunch of companies with standards and APIs so that they all interoperate seamlessly.  This group of companies all trying to wall you into their own silo thing is the worst.

Works in China. A dictatorship... where the markets are VERY heavily monitored.

Unlikely to be authorized in the U.S... monopolistic business models are frowned upon.

WHY DOES ELON MUSK HATE AMERICA??!???

The real reason Musk wanted to get the twitter deal back on was to halt the twitter trial, from the first offer, which through depositions and discovery would've proved embarrassing to Musk.

"If you look carefully at this article, you may notice I've drawn some subtle parallels to Donald Trump in several dozen places. Musk and Trump do not share the exact same vision of the future, and don't have the same ideology. But they are absolutely coming from the same toxic 'I'm a billionaire and no one has the right to question me' mindset, and are exploiting many of the same flaws in the system to get ahead.

[...]

This isn't about choosing between Musk's version of the future and Trump's. This is about choosing between a world in which we actually hold powerful people accountable for their behavior, and one in which we are all just picking which billionaire's personality cult we want to mindlessly join."

Yeah. Sure. The benefit of hindsight and the knowledge of various EDI implementations tells me that Elon doesn't have a good grasp on how engineers view standards - "they're great because there's so many from which to choose" - or their implementation - "hey, this standard can't do what I want... I know, I'll create my own, with hookers and blackjack" - or how this has cycled for DECADES.

ANSI, ASC, CDA, CDISC, DSMO, DICOM, etc., etc. Shake a big bag of X12 EDI implementations at him and shout "BOOGA-BOOGA!," because it's Halloween and Elon's too self-obsessed to be scared...

Bingo. Wait until after November, and the deal will be off again...

They work fine, nowadays.

America no longer has a problem with them. When's the last time we forced a company to break up?

What would even be the point?

What benefit would I get out of having my banking on the same app as chat and entertainment?

At the bare minimum it would make everything slightly less convenient, as I'd have to use the app controls to navigate between the environments whereas at the moment I can switch between apps on my phone, which is in the same place I last left it and then return to exactly where I left off on, say my entertainment apps.

What if I want to manage my personal AND my business stuff, do I now have to log out and log in constantly? EG I'm watching a movie on personal, then someone asks me to pay an invoice, do I now need to log out of personal, login to business, navigate to banking, pay the invoice, then log out, then back into personal, then open movies, find my movie and resume where I left off?

I just have different apps at the moment, and switching apps freezes my session.

The embarrassment of having to waste 44 billion dollars to keep your secrets hidden after you were called out on your bullshiat and they started reading your personal texts out in court?

Elon's definitely the only person in the WORLD who knows such embarrassment.

My iPhone already does this. It could go it on its own, but I suspect people like clicking buttons.

Nexzus: Isn't an app that can do anything called a web browser?

Yes, but you see, Musk doesn't own that yet. So he can't force himself into being a middleman for every single piece of commerce like Apple can. So he needs you to go ahead and switch to his "everything app". Because he needs more money and power, thanks.

2022-10-07 12:41:37 AM
Those who are puzzled by the utility of this are missing the point. The point isn't that it would be better for you. You would be the product, not the customer. It would be better for him, not you.

I would sooner inject myself with arsenic than hand over financial control to an app that was associated with elon musk.

I used Facebook for a few hours about twelve years ago. Whatever It is now, I don't miss it. When the purported sale of Twitter to some Twit was announced several months ago, I deleted my account. Somehow my life has gone on.

There isn't an everything app, and if there were,I wouldn't use one owned by the richest person in the world who has the mental stability of a hyena on bath salts.

One app to rule them all, one aoo to find them, One app to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

My common sense is tingling.  This isn't about convenience, it's about power.

Maybe it's just me, but I like her Dharma and Greg podcast with Scott Galloway, Pivot.

I've been introduced to a number of people they interview and some turn out to be fascinating (and others insufferable). But is she relevant? Yes. She still pulls in big names for tech interviews
