Jesus wept, an "all sports betting" format?  Asteroid impact can't come soon enough...

KGO used to be an amazing station. All day, local news and talk. Not necessarily political, but interesting current events talk.

Len Tillem was a lawyer and funny as hell.

*&%@ Cumulus media and their sports betting trying to get kids hooked on betting on their phones.  Blood sucking leeches they are.

Was Phil Hendrie ever on KGO?  If not, then they should have shut down decades ago.  A waste of radio waves if it ain't blaring Phil across the galaxy.

Thankfully, they are using AM radio to do this. My guess is not a single person under 18 has any idea how to listen to an AM radio broadcast.

He was on KFI, and he left long ago.

I stopped paying any attention to KGO many years ago. The new format the suits thought up isn't going to bring me back. Any bullshiat about gambling, and I switch stations as it is. They aren't giving real, useful information to people. If they were, they'd be saying, "Don't gamble. This shiat is all rigged by its very nature. All that's gonna happen is they'll eventually get all your money."

KGO should be a case study for how to destroy a radio station

Cumulus is the worst operator out there. They have NO clue how to maintain an audience and never have. One of their only "successes" is the syndication of Sean Hannity, and we know how that has gone.

if this is the case, expect plenty of Yes on 26/27 ads.  I would suspect that AM radio is not fertile ground for new listeners though.

Radio has been dead for many years now.

DIdn't KGO go rightwing talkradio a long time ago? If so, good riddance.

The correct answer is KHSU, but yeah.

Somebody must have high hopes that online sports betting will be legalized in California.

It was legalized in my state last year and for a good six months, there wasn't a commercial block on TV or radio that didn't have at least one ad for gambling.  It has toned down a bit, but it is still annoying as fark.  But even with a Tivo, you can't avoid it.  Gambling stats are starting to show up during televised games.

If you are recovering from gambling addiction, it must suck with it becoming so ubiquitous.

Hannity's show has been syndicated by iHeart for well over a decade now.

It always was a bit right leaning. They had one far left guy, Ray Talliaferro, who they only let on the air at 2 in the morning.

We're still in that 'honeymoon' window. Finally calming down a bit. Seems to be the new thing among the same dips at work who were all-in on crypto then GameStop.  They couldn't name three NFL players two years ago, still wouldn't be able to explain a safety, but apparently are dumping substantial $ into online bookies every week now.

Just something I'm weirdly moralistic/judgey on.  Small-l libertarian, I guess, you do you, but I still feel gambling as a whole is socially corrosive.  I remember the dissonance - my family's Methodist church going from still having semi-regular sermons against gambling around 1990 to "Methodist Womens' charter bus ride to Atlantic City" (inevitably to Trump properties, sigh) by 1995.

Later on his show was syndicated to other stations.

That I know.  He left in 2006.  Then returned to some other syndication.  And now he does the show on podcast subscription.

Cumulus was the first syndicator in the 90s.

podcasting ate their lunch. when people can pick when and where they listen, and skip commercials/sub to ad-free content, there's no need for radio. it's a dead format for anything but advertising, and (shocker) people hate advertising. it ruins everything it touches.
