I was waiting to pass judgement on the Chris Pratt casting until I heard his Mario voice but, damnnit... it's just his normal voice. Disappointing.

Don't like Chris Pratt in this at all...he sounds bored.

I do like the character designs though.  Bowser seems really threatening, instead of the overgrown vaguely menacing creature he seems to have become in modern games.

I liked almost everything about the trailer...except Pratt. He's not a voice actor and it shows. He's just using his normal voice here.

I farking hate Hollywood celebrity voice casting. Acting and voice acting are two different skills. Some can do both, a lot can't.

The conundrum Hollywood has gotten itself into though, is that they think the only theatrical animated movies that make money these days are the ones with "name" voice actors. Whether or not those voice actors have anything to do with the box office (they usually don't) is irrelevant. They'd rather spend $10 million on...Kevin Hart or however much a Billy West would command (not nearly that much, but he's just an example). Robin Williams started the trend, but he's such an outlier that it's silly to keep it going. Who cares if Angelina Jolie is voicing a character? No one. But again, execs think if you don't have an a-list voice cast no one will care

I had extremely low expectations, but I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. After years of Nintendo and Miyamoto saying that Mario is from the mushroom kingdom (which is total bullshiat), it's nice to see that they appear to be going back to the classic "plumbers from Brooklyn sucked into a pipe that leads to a warp zone" premise. It was also nice to hear Bowser called the King of the Koopas. I don't think I've heard that since the Super Mario Bros Super Show.

It may also have something to do with avoiding a stereotypically Italian accent for the character for fear of negative feedback. Hence the generic white American accent. The only other way it might work is with a popular Italian actor in the role, using his natural accent. And I have my doubts about that.

April huh?  Maybe it will be time to see if my five year old can handle the movie theaters.  I haven't seen a movie on the big screen since 'Downsizing' and that was a long fuggin' time ago.

I played the sh*t out of Super Mario 3 and Mario Kart as a kid so I kinda want to see it too.

Doubt it. They could have that without hiring an A-list actor

Did not know that - just picked a guy with a more recognizable emotive voice that was as far away from Pratt as possible. Last thing I saw him in was Cooties, which I loved.

This is like the original CGI Sonic that had such an uproar the studio changed it.

Suck it up Pratt, you're gonna have to redo all your lines in a "Itza me, Mario!" accent.  We demand the nostalgic stereotype.
