Went through something like this years ago. Work year was actually great but come November all of a sudden all my expectations needed major overhaul with 6 weeks to go in the year. Come review time I was ranked Satisfactory but no raise. Two weeks later, everyone that got no raise was escorted out after turning in the company stuff.

I took it pretty hard because there was no way I did not perform that year, I was just chosen by whoever above along with 11K others. The following October I got a "follow up" letter from the state employment office asking if they could close my YEAR old file.
