The military objectively recognizes that alternative energy is a national security, not political issue.  Which is why the political right does everything they can to cut off funding that line of reasoning when they have the chance.  Could you imagine if the United States geopolitical goals didn't have to calculate the whims of countries like Saudi Arabia?  

Which is why the Sauds are raising prices shortly before the United States midterm. They need the forces of regression to continue to ascend in the United States.

I dunno. The saudis fired a direct shot INTO our bow. Hard to see the government just ignoring that. The WH has already blisteringly condemned the move and I don't think that a deliberate attempt to make gas prices higher in order to game the midterm elections is going to be met with anything besides hostility.

This comment made me laugh. The cheapest pickup you can buy now is north of $30K, not a hybrid or EV. I would say $60K is close to the price of the average truck now. You can get a Bolt for less than this

Ukraine GDP: $200 billion or so
Saudi Arabia GDP: $1.6 TRILLION

I think I spy the problem with your logic - even though they're currently engaged in hostilities, I doubt Ukraine would buy 8x as much as SA would.

We've sent about $13 billion in aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded (PDF sauce), which is only slightly more than the $9 billion or so we've sold to the Saudis EVERY YEAR for a decade.

Instead of lowering oil prices, raise them for short term gains. Then attempt to fight against the 'free market' demand for electric or alternative fuel cars/heating and power and drive the market into cars and things that don't involve YOUR Theocratic governments.

I don't think you though your cunning plan out. What's left? Tourism? See the sites along the Nile?

It's not like you automagically get oil or gas when you drill a hole in the ground deep enough..
Sometimes you do..Sometimes you don't...Sometimes what comes out isn't enough to justify the cost of
keeping the pump, pumping to bring it up..And it doesn't all just happen overnight. It can take a while
to get a well to the point that your actually pumping up something beside maybe some water..
The Earth isn't like a keg you just tap and get stuff out of..

Putin uses his military to destabilize the world, the Saudi's are asserting dominance in their own way.

You have to look at things from their perspective to truly understand, though.  The last US president was their stooge, they could get him to act however they wanted, from treacherous statements about believing the Russians over his own intelligence agencies to laying hands on some goofy Palantír for their own amusement, they were in the driver's seat.  Dance, monkey, dance!

Now they have to go back to a world where they don't hold the leash and they don't like it.

The current administration is basically "can't stop, won't stop" when it comes to levying sanctions on Russia so I'm not sure what makes you think that they will ignore a direct attack on our economy made in concert with Russia.

Isn't like 85 percent of US oil from within the US?
When OPEC lowers production doesn't that oil cost more to the consumers?
When OPEC lowers production does that raise the cost to procedure oil for US suppliers?

So when OPEC lowers production doesn't that make US oil more profitable?

So who benefits more when OPEC lowers production OPEC countries or non OPEC nations who produce oil and can supply increased demand at increased prices?

If it were part of a well defined, binding timeline that included stiff penalties for delays and sufficient money for cleanup at the end, I would fully support domestic oil drilling as phase one of getting America on the right track for renewable energy.

I'm also a fan of nuclear, but that's a WHOLE other can of worms :)

Doesn't matter, if a camel farts near an oil rig in the middle east the futures market will use it as an excuse to raise the price $10 a barrel.

The only thing that lowers the price of oil is what the traders at NYMEX decide to do with the price of oil.

If they feel a recession is coming, they will sell the sh*t out of futures contracts no matter what OPEC says about supply.

They also almost never adhere to their guidelines anyway.

Price is determined by guys in suits at a Bloomberg Terminal, not at the oil terminal.
