like last time? FTA: This year marks the 20th anniversary of a shooting at the UA College of Nursing in which three professors were killed by a failing student, who then took his own life on Oct. 28, 2002.

Other sources say he was a grad student and he killed the department head (Dr. Thomas Meixner).
Grad school can be really high pressure.
Mental illness? Some romantic/sexual aspect? Expulsion for cheating or something criminal?

Various security experts have pointed out that the time to really look out for violence is usually right after  someone gets fired, dumped, told to GTFO by someone, etc. And by "look out for" they mean "tighten security." Be aware that the time after someone suffers (in their mind) an attack on their self-worth (i.e., rejected in a way that they view as unjust, which for most of these people seems to be everything, all the time) is the time when they usually "lose it" and kill people. But the tendency to react horribly to obstacles or frustration was always there and not a surprise to most people who knew that person.

I don't know how the grad student stuff works, but if he suffered some sort of setback that he would obviously blame the department head for, that's probably the "trigger" for this. Not an excuse. People like this (usually men but not always men, as we know from incidents like the female professor who murdered 3 coworkers at the Univ of Alabama) don't just "snap" once. They do it all the time. They are frequently well known to police and other people who have witnessed their violent rage. They are almost never a "quiet" type who is wonderful and polite to everyone and then just lost it over a single incident. They are perpetually aggrieved and frequently angry at anyone who they feel deserves it. They are, in a word, mentally ill. And violent.

Our country really needs to do something about these people before they farking kill someone.

This country's addiction to rage and violence has resulted in probably millions of deaths over its history. Deaths distinct from war (though they probably aren't unrelated). Deaths of women, children, men, neighbors, innocent bystanders, coworkers, etc. We have a serious mental illness problem that probably won't be addressed anytime soon.
