I'm quite fond of oysters if they're cooked.  Fried oysters are good, and if made properly oyster dressing is delicious.  But raw oysters are farking disgusting.

This.

Don't get me wrong -- I like 'em -- but I sometimes wonder about the first person to see this

Aren't those the things that filter all of the nasty stuff out of the ocean? Like poo?

I've been getting  them for a dollar on the streets in front of the fish markets up on Aurther Ave. in the Bronx for years. I'll go through 20 of them until my wife backhands me for looking at young wimmens.

Random oyster-related fact I learned the other day: there is a drive through oyster restaurant in Australia called Get Shucked.

They get a gold star just for that name.

NINEv2: Had never tried one until a couple years ago, when a seafood store (lasted all of 8 months here in SD) started carrying them. They offered me a freebie when I said I'd never had one. It wasn't a revelation or a "holy fark where have you been all my life" moment, but I get it. Quite nice really. Nothing like the brainy metallic horror that is a raw tomato.

I like to eat raw tomatoes like soup dumplings , take a little bite , suck out the contents then eat the rest.
