I would have suggested Weird Al's "You're Pitiful" or "Dare to be Stupid", but I'm not feeling subtle today.

Yeah he's a tool and a quack, but you only have to Google thalidomide babies to understand why animals are used to test things. Regrettable, but often necessary.

Thalidomide is still used.  All the testing in the world wouldn't have caught that at the time.  It's the lesson about why nothing gets given to pregnant women, not why we use animals to test drugs.

And dogs are useless.  We're aren't that similar to them, pharmacologically.

One of the specific reforms that resulted from the thalidomide catastrophe was that we no longer allowed authorization of drugs for use on humans based exclusively on animal testing. Because thalidomide had been animal tested.

You might be right. My dog found an old grey sandwich on the ground last week. She ate half of it before I wrestled it away from her. She was fine, but I had the runs for two days.

I thought it was more that the human testing was German (1940s)....

Presumably you know the "In the Arms of an Angel" song playing over the "Please donate to help abused animals find a home" commercials.

Anyway, it's recently surfaced that Dr. Oz killed a few hundred dogs in medical experiments years ago.

He killed puppies as their litter-mates looked on. That's not legitimate medical research, that's making a very large cash deposit in the murder-fetish spank-bank.

Dogs are very useful, even in drug testing. I worked on a pharma project where dogs (specifically beagles) were used to test a then-blood pressure medicine.

After testing chocolate on dogs, a group of medical researchers tried prohibiting pregnant women from eating any. The doctors have not been seen since.

yeah, that is the perfect placement. all I see are shaking, shivering, starving dogs when the first air pressure sound wave of the intro to that song begins.

I didn't even read the article when it came out, the headline of "Oz did experiments that killed dogs" and no rebuttal from his camp was enough to make me hate him more...so, once again Republican voters:

And also threw half-live puppies in garbage bags along with dead ones. That's not science. That's something you'd expect from Mengele or Mike Huckabee's son.

Just to be clear, this is completely untrue. Canine models of a broad number & variety of diseases are very useful.

That said, @&#%ing nobody likes to work with canine models unless they absolutely must. They're typically beagles and are very sweet & friendly & trusting. It is absolutely emotionally hard to run such studies. Vivarium personnel will typically go well out of their way to give canines the best possible treatment they can.

It's not just about using animals in experiments, the dogs were tortured and abused in violation of standards for animal experiments
