Why does time go forwards, not backwards?

Time has been moving backwards in this country for several years now.

Because that's how our primitive three dimensional minds perceive it.

If we were denizens of the fourth dimension, we would see time as a singular constant now.

//Also hallucinogens have varying degrees of success in seeing that while being unable to perceive it.

Time is just a construct so everything doesn't happen at once.

How do you know it's not going backwards?

I'll believe time is a construct when I start aging backwards.

This is forwards?

AdmirableSnackbar: How do you know it's not going backwards?

Right. If it was going backwards, we would still perceive it as going forwards because that's what we expect.

Because we labeled the direction we observe it "forwards."

How do you know it's not going forward back forward back, bucking like a misfiring El Dorado, zigzagging all over the place and into other dimensions? We're all on the same ride, man.

Benjamin Button.
The last Star Trek TAS episode.
PK Dick's, "Now wait for Last Year"
Slaughterhouse Five? kinda?

Every attempt I have seen in popular literature to express what an opposite flow of time would be like.. and that is not too many, admittedly... has been kind of silly. It breaks down logically and seems absurd. That is probably because we are so wedded to recording and explaining everything with time.

You can't even tell a good reverse-time story without absurdity. People just appear out of caskets and crematoria, walk backwards for several decades, become babies, and disappear into the womb of some woman who happens to live nearby. And why tell a story anyway if you already know the end? Remember how much Memento screwed with your mind? Well, triple that.

Probably no great work will ever be written. Is it really so easy for an old person near death to identify with what it is like to be a baby? Or vice versa? Even a good narrative seems impossible. Who appreciates reversal of a character arc?

That is just the way it is.

I say deliberately in present tense.

That was very cool.

I forgot to say to be sure to watch it full-screen and highest quality on the biggest screen available to you, so long as your bandwidth can handle it smoothly (smooth motion is more important than resolution for this, but for the full impact both are desirable).

Exactly my point. Somehow the Universe created an interesting and informative YT video.

Entropy would suggest that would never happen.
