The hidden fund for lawsuits was bad enough, but a SECOND just for sexual assault cases?  This is going to hit Penn State levels.

So they separate from Canada but the province hasn't? I remember 1995.

50.1% to 49.9%

Talk about razor-thin.

Of course that was with "No" votes being tossed into the St. Lawrence in some jurisdictions, but we won't talk about that.

Hockey Canada is in deep shiate, and their leadership refuses to step down under the excuse of "youth hockey season is about to start, who would run things??"  Um, pretty much anybody who doesnt think like Gym Jordan??  I dunno??.

And some in the friggin media up there are siding with them on this.

Terrible..nuke it from orbit and start over.

It's not like we're talking about the national youth development program for ice hockey in Botswana, if they were able to somehow produce anywhere near the total amount and quality of players while having an infinitely smaller initial talent pool to work with. Not that it would make all....*gestures at everything*...this okay but at least then I could predict some Gym Jordan-esque revisionism and under-the-carpet sweeping to protect the leadership.

It's f*cking Canada. I can pick 10 homeless people at random from Skid Row and assign them random positions to run Hockey Canada today and damn good professional hockey players should still be churning out from there left and right.

I heard hockey dads in the grocery store line up yesterday talking about how their kids won't play hockey anymore.
JFC this is serious. Canadian hockey dads giving up hockey is a sure sign of the apocalypse.

If you want a good alternate history read, I recommend The Morning After by Chantel Hebert. She interviews all of the major players of the 1995 referendum asking what they would have done in the wake of a Yes win.  In the least surprising news, Preston Manning would have let the country dissolve just to become PM. Whatever respect I had left for him was gone after reading the book.

Well right now, my money is on the Canadian Hockey Federation running them next year, along with their brand new IIHF membership.

Reminds me of how back in the day the Toronto team owner was such an ass that the other team owners got together, left the league, and formed the NHL without him.

For those who don't remember the rescheduled World Juniors over the summer, there were no advertisers on the boards other than the IIHF's official watch because all of Hockey Canada's sponsors paused their support. Well, The Athletic is now reporting that we should expect that again this December when the tournament is in Halifax and Moncton because sponsors are deciding to continue that pause for this hockey season.

/note: the WJC was to have been in Russia, but was pulled from there after the start of Putin's folly

Correction: Canadian Tire isn't pausing their sponsorship of Hockey Canada, they're ENDING it completely

Good.  I'm sick of 4-sided tires.
