My ex-husband had actually crafted a strong personal brand by flooding everyone's timelines with content about his undying love for me. He was a textbook "wife guy."

If a person spends all his time saying on social media that he is X, then he is almost always Not-X.

And with that, I will now reveal to Fark that I am actually Derek Jeter.

Every Saturday was my house cleaning and laundry day. My husband's contribution?  He'd go play golf or hang out with the ham radio club for the day so he wasn't underfoot.  He'd usually take my car and bring it home clean with a full tank of gas.   This worked for us.  He was a lot more social than I was, so I enjoyed the alone time and he got to hang with his buddies. Win-win.

WTF is a wife guy? The phrase is linked in TFA, but it goes to some article about the Try Guys, who I never heard of until a few days ago when they "leaked" some "story" about one of them cheating which is "news" even through it's a pretty transparent attempt at marketing, which I guess worked because I now know the phrase "Try Guys".


After some additional reading, I think it's a term cooked up by guys who are trying to make "being a good husband" cool or something.  Like, it's such a trope in American culture that married men *resent* their marriage that these guys felt the need to emphasize that they not only value their marriages, but also that they make it a pillar of their personality.

It also seems like most of the guys who were trying to make that a thing were actually bog-standard internet clout-chasers and when people make some virtue the sum-total of their identity it is usually a sign of either deep insecurity or cover for a guilty conscience.

And this marriage sounds like it was doomed from the start.  Like it was built on a foundation of never seeing one another.

Does the term "Wife Guy" refer to the more femme partner in a gay relationship? Or the more butch partner in a lesbian relationship? Or is it one of those things if your partner is trans (so your wife is a guy)?

I know this might come across as bigoted or something, but I'm just trying to make sense of this all...

"Wife guy" = husband.  Just say husband. And if your spouse cheats, and you kick them out or leave, and your family take their side, do the same to your family. Cut ties. You're better off without them. Found family is better than the randos you're only tied to by genetics.

Apparently he was at home in London while she was traveling the world.

She seems sort of selfish, and that's okay. Hard to fault her for wanting to indulge herself in her youth. Yet, her letter suggests she wanted everything frozen in place waiting for her to return when it was convenient for her to do so, and life doesn't work like that.  The guy dutifully waited for her to return, she did, and she wasn't the same person he built her up to be in her absence.

It sucks for her, but the reality of the situation is that either you adjust your expectations or just shelve some of the adventures you wanted to have. People aren't robots and her actions showed what she valued loud and clear.  It wasn't him.  Again, that's okay, but she should not be surprised when people act in a manner consistent with her actions.

I'm pretty sure Wife Guys are the men that complain that 'She left me because I left my dishes in the sink.' and portray themselves publicly to be these great husbands, doting and caring and involved... but only when there are witnesses and cameras nearby.
