CrazyCurt: UndeadPoetsSociety: Damn it Roger. You used to be cool

He's joined the "Shut up and play guitar" club with Nugent and Clapton.

/ Good music, bad person.

*tweet* Five yard penalty for suggesting Nugent is a good musician.

Roger, sadly, has always suffered from a hugely inflated impression of his own significance.  Now he's added near-Claptonesque levels of "wacko" to his repertoire.

Irrelevant 79 year old man, tired of yelling at clouds, now claims he's on a kill list.

I'm guessing somebody from the Kremlin told him this.

Ironic how somebody who wrote such great songs in the 70s, ripping fascism and the establishment, would turn into a useful idiot for Putin.

Mikey1969: Well, at least we know where Rolling Stone stands on the Israel/Palestine issue.
What he sees as his advocacy for Palestine has for some crossed the line from legitimate criticism into bigotry, whether deliberate or otherwise. Waters' previous shows have had, for example, giant pigs emblazoned with the Star of David, alongside other symbols. Waters has repeatedly insisted his problem is Israel, not with Jews more broadly. However, as we discuss the subject during our interview, Waters argues that some Jewish people in the U.S. and U.K. bear responsibility for the actions of Israel, "particularly because they pay for everything."

Guess what? Jewish people are more likely to support Israel than non-Jewish people, and if he has specific names, that's even better. But they go ahead and try to insinuate that any problem with Israel is anti-semitism. It's pretty subtle, but it's there. Calling out the supporters of the Israel mess is not bigotry.

Agreed.  Too often, when people criticize Israel, they get the backlash of, "You are an Anti-Semite!!"

No.  It is entirely possible to criticize Israel for their direct actions.  And that has nothing to do with their religion.

On one hand, if Mexico decided they wanted to be in China's economic/social orbit (not likely), we'd have troops there yesterday. On the other hand, there are valid, good reasons Ukraine wants to be more western in its orientation, and that is solely up to them. So, fark Russia, and fark Roger Waters, too.

Classic rocker who was always politics-adjacent turning to crack theories on how to run the world?  This is news.

Note to Roger about the silly concert opening line... your fans probably do want to hear politics.  Just not YOUR politics.  Because they are a bit, well, dumb.

I love Pink Floyd.  But Roger Waters is an asshole.  He's been an asshole for a long time, which is why he hasn't been with Floyd for all this time.

In reading that article, I do find a couple of things interesting.  For instance, he supports Palestine and Black Lives Matter.  He has spoken out against far-right loonies like Drumpf and Bolsackanaro.  But he backs Russia against Ukraine.

Those things just don't normally fit inside the same brain.

I don't normally mind when an entertainer speaks their mind on politics.  Especially when they are on the right side of history.
You may notice that most of the Kevin Sorbos, James Woods's, and Ted Nugent's of the world (those who are on the wrong side of history) are already hasbeens.  So I don't really give a crap what they say.  And that is normally the case.

But most people that are still current and active, like Roger Waters for instance, usually say all the right things.
Also, if people like that do say the wrong thing, they immediately are told why they are wrong, and they change their position.  But not Roger Waters.  He's like, "Nope, you can F right off to the bar if you don't like it."

FTFA-"Waters wants his public to accept him - his music, politics, and all, and to take it seriously."

Stop saying ridiculous shiat and maybe we will. Until then, you're just a mediocre musician who does, in fact, desperately need education.

Yeah, it's Israel's actions as a nation that suck. I don't give two squirts if someone is Jewish, that's their business.
