What do you expect from a city named after someone who was considered a extreme racist even for the 1400s?

2022-10-05 4:48:22 AM
Boston swears the least? Hahaha what the f*ck?

2022-10-05 4:50:11 AM
Hmm. I live in the 6th least-swearing city but I'm from one of the 7th most-swearing cities. I wonder which one my habitual swearing hews closest to.

Pretty sure this is a farking repeat.

Meh. If you lived in Ohio you'd swear a lot too.

Mostly whenever you remembered that you live in Ohio.

I didn't even see that aspect but this reeks of problems with polling.

Generic swear words are so common these days I don't see much of a point in them. They're just regular words now. Well, except anything with racial or gender connotations. That stuff will get you in the news.

Leaf Erikson is much cooler than Columbus anyway. AND the Red Hats will all have strokes if you say "Happy Leaf Erikson's Day" instead of Columbus Day.

From what I understand, they were regular words until some snooty coont decided they were "commoner" words.

That last sentence, it's like you were reading my mind.  Or I was reading yours.  Some shiat was being read, I'm sure.

I'm from Louisville [#5] but didn't swear until my late 60s. My parents never swore. Their parents [my grandparents] never swore. Their parents [my great grandparents] -- of the ones I met -- never swore. We're now talking about people born in the era right after the Civil War.

Among my peers, as I think back, there wasn't swearing. You even guarded your tongue during sports.  A kick in the nuts. A baseball in your ear. These sort of provocations might loosen the tongue, but usually didn't.

Swearing prolifically and automatically by everyone all the time is a new phenomenon. I wish I didn't. It's pointless. And worse: it's no long funny.

I'd wager that in most of those cities, the residents get off to an early start on the swearing.

Motherfarking south Jersey that's what's up. But not those Vineland or Toms River assholes, they can fark the hell off.

People in the bah-bull belt swear the most.  HAHAHAHAHAHA.  Why am I NOT surprised.  Those same self-proclaimed "Good Christians" have higher rates of divorce and adultery than other areas.

I'm wondering why they didn't go to any cities that hold major naval bases, like Norfolk, New London, Kings Bay, Bremerton or San Diego..

36 times per day? What a farking bunch of goddamed lightweight coonts.

just assumed it would be cities with an attached military base as liberally sprinkling in the f word into every sentence is de rigueur

I think those cities are not on the list because for them, it's not swear words; it's just (as Lewis Black noted) punctuation.

New York City is on the list of cities that swear the least.

See, that's how I know this list is  bullshiat. That entire city is predicated on expressing your discontent with life in the most profane ways possible.

i think the same mindset explains Chief Superintendent Lookout's observation about divorce and adultery. it's like the George Costanza theory of lying. if i cuss, lie and screw with barely any self-awareness, have i even really done it?

46 year Columbus resident here. Story tracks. There is nothing here that would make you not want to curse.

2022-10-05 8:21:56 AM
Hrm.  A survey that asked respondents to estimate the number of times a day they swear.  I'm sure these results are totally accurate and not compromised at all by any number of biases.

I'm shocked that St. Louis didn't make the list. I'm a big fan of swearing myself, though I try not to do it around polite company (strangers and kids). I lived in Nashville for 12 years and the aversion to swearing there got on my nerves. People would practically faint if they heard someone say fark. I'm glad to be back in St. Louis for that one reason at least.

2022-10-05 8:51:19 AM
LOLOL.  Most people I know swear a LOT.  Of course, this is tRump country and it is usually preceded by the word "liberals" or "Nancy Pelosi".  Not sure if that has any farking thing to farking do with that BS.  FK

2022-10-05 9:05:42 AM
Because New York and Boston have the most polite residents and Columbus has the most crude residents.

yeah, that's a list.
