Wait, I thought it was "fake news."

2022-10-05 3:57:37 AM
It was never about abortion.

It was never about water fountains.

Etc.

Conservatives rely on prayer as their Plan A.

How has that worked out for us?

2022-10-05 5:53:16 AM
Haughtiness is probably the defining factor of the modern GOP.  It stems from years of getting away with lying about everything and having a layer of monied Teflon about them that makes it hard for things to stick.

2022-10-05 6:00:36 AM
But remember, he's going to sue The Daily Beast anyway.

2022-10-05 6:08:59 AM
The 1 person made a really good point. He's admitted to stalking women and to putting a gun to his ex wife's head. But this is the story he's going to deny?  Just say you're a different person now.

Conservatives already showed that they don't care how many abortions a candidate has paid for as long as they try to lock women up now.

2022-10-05 6:13:57 AM
Well I for one am SHOCKED a candidate would run on a platform they don't personally follow.

"Herschel has properly denied the charges against him and I have no doubt he is correct," said Trump in a statement. "They are trying to destroy a man who has true greatness in his future, just as he had athletic greatness in his past."

He pretty much peaked in high school and his brief time in college. Unfortunately, there are enough people alive and voting in Georgia that remember him fondly and will vote for him because he's not a Democrat.

Who keeps reciepts of abortions? And get well cards from the prison who paid for them?

2022-10-05 6:30:47 AM
The reporter that broke the (first) abortion story for Daily Beast said on Chris Hayes' show last night that this Politico story was probably not the same story he reported on

The obvious subtext being that there are multiple Walker abortion stories that he is aware of that he couldn't get the literal receipts like he did for this one

We're going to see, with no surprise, evangelicals and other conservatives don't give a rat's ass about principles when it comes to their side.

Now that "Hershel Walker paid for an abortion" has been confirmed to be 100% accurate, go back and watch his heated denials again: all of his mush-mouthed pretending not to know the woman, all of his 'I send lots of people money' bullsh*t, all of his shaking his big empty head in feigned disappointment at the evil Democrats for making up a terrible story to discredit him, a wholesome Republican Christian family man.

Just like with his three bastard children who came to public light one at a time, Walker lied his ass off repeatedly until the proof finally came out. The fact that his political team knew about this abortion months ago just underscores how all of his supposedly-surprised reactions when pressed about this abortion were just the clumsily practiced lies of a blundering, hypocritical moron who can't speak on any topical but football for more than a few seconds. Hershel Walker is a huge f*cking liar. It is now known.

He even claimed to be a cop/Fed, as well as valedictorian of his class, lies which were laughably easy to disprove.

They'll just have to hold their noses extra hard when they vote for him.

Expecting republicans to hold to a stance is like trying to push poop back into a leaking sack of shiat. Pointless.

2022-10-05 7:22:14 AM
It's not going to torpedo his campaign. His lack of knowledge should. His inexperience should. His lack of even basic governmental issues should. But they tacked an 'R' onto his household name, and that's good enough. He'll still get all the Republican votes. They don't care that one of those people aborted a bastard. What's important is that, if elected, he'll do what he's told.

"...some of Walker's primary boosters have implicitly conceded that the story could have been approached with a touch of humility."

Riiiiiigght - so no exceptions for rape or incest -- but famous football players is totes ok.

Look, there is no way for the GOP to have presented this candidate honorably and transparently without fundamemtally altering their stance on abortion to one that aligns with the prevailing feelings within the country as a whole. i.eRoe v. Wade.

Who the hell do they think they're kidding??

Of course they did.  Republicans are despicable subhuman scum.

Nice autocorrect and probably appropriate in some ways.

Being hypocritical about abortion would likely not have been a big issue if SCOTUS had not overturned Roe v Wade.
The rules have changed kids. Walker might have just sunk his campaign.

It worked next door in Alabama with Tuberville, who was a mediocre coach and an absolute moron. So, why not repeat the play?

Let's hope that's the case. I've got some blind hope that folks will see the light, and/or find ways to overcome all the lovely new voting restrictions in GA, but who knows.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with all those suburban White ladies who are losing access to what amount to essential health care services. Especially with changes to birth control policy looming on the horizon.

Football fans love their memorabilia. Literally tens of thousands of Americans still have ticket stubs from big games they've attended or newspaper clippings from big games and such. I wouldn't be surprised if someone's got the aborted fetus in a jar somewhere.

People who got knocked up by UGA's "best football player ever"?  It was probably her claim to fame. Or a memento of a lost love.  Some people keep nail clippings.  I'm not judging.

You're still going to do it. Even when it comes out that this abortion was only one among countless others.

Yes, we know.

It's not an abortion when a rich republican does it - it's problem solving

He is PERFECTLY qualified to be a US Senator. And is very likely to become one in a few weeks Becuase people get what they deserve.

They'll be laying hands on him and forgiving his sin in the knowledge that he won't let anyone else have or pay for one in the future.

Someone should make a list of all the Republican reps who have cheated on their wives or paid for abortions.

If abortion is murder "I'm a different person" doesn't cut it as an excuse.

This should really make his supporters abandon him completely, but we all know they'd rather just put their hands over their ears and yell "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU" then chance a Democrat getting reelected.

This topic feels different. Cons don't just say that it's evil and wrong (which is something you could potentially be forgiven for), but they've been going hard on "no exceptions, no forgiveness". I don't think it's entirely unreasonable for them to be leery of it.

Besides, and I think this is the bigger factor, they've discovered that their voters don't give a squirrel's fart about lying, so the standard response is deny, deny, deny. There's zero reason not to try. If it works, great, if not, no harm done.

It would probably be a lot shorter to list the ones who did neither.
