Williams was wanted for failure to appear on a felony methamphetamine charge, and Judd said the Sheriff's Office received a Crimestoppers tip at 2 a.m. that she was at the residence.

Well, if they could stop one meth head from smoking meth for one night, it was worth that guy's life and I'm sure he'd agree if he wasn't dead.

Deputy Blane Lane, 21, was one of four deputies sent to 4345 Foxtown South in Polk City about 3 a.m. Tuesday to serve a warrant for Cheryl Lynn Williams, 46.

Not that I'd expect meth heads to be good at the whole "logical reasoning" thing, but you gotta wonder just how she thought that might play out in her favor, considering how cops have historically reacted when faced with realistic-looking BB guns.

I've used it once in testimony, but it was for an event I'd directly witnessed and knew exactly what happened.  I was standing there going wtf?

We had a guy trying to handwave off another employees psycho treatment of women.  The kicker was a joke about how rape was actually what women needed.  And that's what I was testifying to.  This asshole was claiming that's not REALLY what this guy said when 5 of us heard it, and repeated it back separately to our boss

/Both those shiatstains got fired, with assurances from the rest of that staff that if they came back they'd be their ass beat
//secretary kickboxed as a hobby and she took it seriously, and we had some big dudes to boot
///to give you an idea of how smart this guy was - the woman he was trying the 'joke' on?  Yeah, the kickboxer

According to sheriff Grady Judd no one did anything wrong:  "All the deputies on the scene were fully trained and experienced in how to execute an arrest warrant...Lane made a "sound decision" by taking up a tactical position outside the home's front door...Deputy Lane did exactly what he should have," said Sheriff Judd.
That being; getting killed.

"Judd said Williams will be charged with felony second-degree murder when she's released from the hospital"

If a person just points bb gun at a cop and the cops (who have gone through a bunch of training) go all storm trooper academy on them and kill an innocent person, even if the cops discharge their weapons with reckless abandon in a crowded mall, that murder is charged to the person "who made them shoot."

If a citizen, who hasn't been through the kind of training that cops have, and wouldn't expect to ever be in a firefight in their lifetime gets shot at by a person who is actively trying to kill them and others, and they fire back, and the bullet goes through the gunman, through a wall and hits someone the citizen couldn't possibly know was there, they are absolutely responsible for every bullet they send, and will be charged accordingly.

This make sense to anyone?

I was tempted to say "Never bring a BB gun to a real gun fight".  I've got some Nerf guns laying around - they're not even secure or anything.  One's on my coffee table.  It would still be stupid to pick up a Nerf gun in response to a visit from the cops, but hopefully they won't shoot me if it ever happens.

I should paint one of them black and maybe buy a custom stock from a real gun store for it.  How realistic can I make a Nerf gun look?

I was in the military for a few years.  Electronics maintenance specialist.

At no time was I ever trained, indoctrinated, drilled, or officially encouraged to shoot first and ask questions later.  If anything, officers in my chain of command actively discouraged us enlisted troops from any kind of belligerence or "stand your ground" attitudes.  Didn't want the troops to be so aggressive that we hard for officers to control.

The training you are referring to is called "police training".

Way back in the 1993 there was a huge operation around a cult in Waco Texas.  Four ATF agents were killed and 82 suspects killed, 20 of whom were children.
Their leader, David Koresh was grocery shopping just before the siege and could have been quickly and safely arrested in town.  Janet Reno wanted a big media moment and waited to serve the warrant at their compound, resulting in a massive fire when she ordered a military tear gas round fired into the building.  It was meant for an open air space due to the ignition of the chemicals as it was designed to do.

I've had to teach my sons that police should be dealt with like feral dogs:

- Don't run, because they'll instinctively chase you
- Don't assume they're friendly, even if they aren't acting aggressive.
- You never completely know what's going to make them attack. Make no sudden movements, keep your distance, and don't reach for anything anywhere
- If you think one is following you, get indoors.
And if you absolutely have to play along, protect your head and neck.

So, and correct me if I'm wrong on this one, but isn't one of the things you're taught about firearms the idea that bullets go THROUGH things? And that you shouldn't shoot without verifying what's behind your target? I mean, a mobile home is made of what? Thin aluminum? Even a 9mm is going to go through that like swiss cheese. I get that they see a gun and have to react quickly but... well, this is what happens.
