Despite the domestic violence arrest, the East Bernstadt Republican easily won reelection that fall to his second term in the state House, defeating his Democratic opponent with 71% of the vote.

I mean... what's the point anymore?

"$2.7 million for prescriptions that customers never picked up, then multiplying profits by putting those medications back on the shelf and selling them again."

Or as I like to call it, 1/1000 of a Rick Scott. So apparently this guys plan wasn't profitable enough or plausibly deniable enough to give him aspirations of being an American President.

This is why I keep saying things like "California needs to be it's own country."

If those crazy farkers want a wife beater for their rep and governor, that's fine. I don't want them in my country; but since  we're all attached, let's just make it so my money doesn't support them in any way.

The hicks and yokels in Kentucky love them some Republicans.  The guy who was going to run for Lt. Gov. as Goforth's running mate.  Well, just about a week ago.................

The former County Attorney for Lawrence County, Michael T. Hogan, and his wife and legal secretary, Joy M. Hogan, 41, were sentenced to 42 months and 12 months and one day, respectively, on Tuesday, by U.S. District Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove, for wire fraud. Michael Hogan was also sentenced for federal program theft.
According to the Hogans' plea agreements, the Hogans conspired with each other to commit wire fraud by issuing checks from a second delinquent tax account for the Lawrence County Attorney's Office, the statements for which went to their personal residence.  Michael Hogan and Joy Hogan would routinely prepare "bonus" checks issued to Joy, and signed by Michael, paid with delinquent tax funds that should have been used on operating expenses for the Lawrence County Attorney's Office.  The Hogans deposited these checks in Joy's personal account and the couple's joint accounts and spent the funds on personal expenses.  Michael Hogan admitted he personally benefitted from these payments and knew some of these payments were not reasonable in amount, nor beneficial to the public.  According to the indictment, between March 8, 2013, and April 30, 2020, Michael Hogan paid Joy Hogan more than $365,000 from the Lawrence County Delinquent Tax Account.
Michael Hogan also admitted to defrauding the Lawrence County Child Support Enforcement Office, part of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.  According to his plea agreement, Hogan billed the program for more hours than he actually worked.

As you were reading the article & processing the part where it said the fine was $10K, did you see any other words in that sentence that spelled out figures of some kind? Maybe something w/ the word million in it? Take a second to reread the article if you need to, we'll wait.

You wrote something funny once so I will forgive your snarkiness. In the article it noted that he was ordered to pay a 10k fine and 2.7M in restitution. Now the 2.7M in restitution shouldn't be too hard for him to come up with---that's the amount that he stole. So the amount of the fine is very small compared with the amount he stole.

Imagine someone runs this scheme repeatedly (having various agents to do it), stealing 2.7M each time. Say that you're caught only nine out of ten times. Then you pay 90k in fines and earn 2.7M, for a 2.61M profit. Enough maybe to pay your coolies.

Where does one even source cooiles anymore?? Asking for a friend, need answer fast.
Surely he spent a good chunk of that $2.7M, (what's the point otherwise?) so he'll need to liquidate a LOT of things, which will be a PITA all on its own, to come up w/ it.
Then there's the IRS & the fun they'll have w/ the last few years of this putz's federal returns, since he probably didn't declare his stolen booty. There'll be back taxes, maybe on both fed & state level.
The flip side of it is he'll attain any public office he wants in Kentucky, b/c my hill-dwelling relatives only say they back the blue - in fact, they still hate The Law as much as they ever did when they were cooking mash up in the holler. So having this person tweak the law & basically keep his freedom is admirable to them & will be rewarded.

Judgements are cool and all but it's not like pharma bro has to liquidate every single asset instantly and turn over every last penny. A two decade long payment plan is more likely

And let them live on someone else's tax dollars?  No.  All Republicans should be exterminated according to their own party's codes.

OK, OK, I'll go with the positive side of this story:  At least this Republican f*cker didn't rape any children, as is so common in the GOP.  For that, today we are blessed.

The GOP is just a party of grifters and criminals, serving the grifters and criminals that are beyond the reach of the law.
