FTFA : "Franklin Pierce" by BreAnn Rumsch
Challenge submitted June 20, 2022
What do you believe is the theme and/or major intent of this work?
Presidents
What is your objection to this work? Please be specific.
It listed the wrong date for Pierce to be president. 1963 instead of 1953 pg 22"

This is my favorite objection to a library book of all time.

OF ALL TIME.

I'm shocked there are a few actually citing page numbers. Usually this kind of thing falls into the "I've never read it, but my Pastor and Alex Jones told me..." category

CTRL-F "violen" ... 0 results.

So they want to censor all the books kids will almost certainly experience in life (100% of them are the result of sex) but not the ones kids will infrequently or possibly never experience in life (violence).

Typical. Their hostility to education and actually preparing children for the world would be more mind-blowing if it wasn't so routine.

Did subby read TFA?

What is your objection to this work? Please be specific.

This book is dangerous. It relates the very real trauma and difficulty of life as a trans youth to the experience of an immature child playing dress-up. It equates parents who support their trans children as abusive and cowardly. Spreading this rhetoric is deadly to trans children, adults and their loved ones. Studies show that fifty six percent of youth reported a previous suicide attempt and eighty six percent reported suicidality. Further, this board book is directed at children age 0-4, so a plot line where a parent is cutting off their child's feet is not appropriate for this age group. This book should be removed from shelves, or, at the very least, issued some type of warning.

it's all the challenges from the county, for any cause.

What is your objection to this work? Please be specific.
Author's father brings 14 yr old son (pg73) to a whorehouse/bar with friends. Pg78-87 tells explicitly about whores and one whore has foreplay and intercourse with a DONKEY -- pages of description. Trash and pornographic.
In its place, what work of equal literary quality would you recommend for library purchase that would cover the same subject or content?
There is no equal that I know of.

That's a damn shame.

Sex scenes with grapefruit still okay...

Is the subject matter well presented and handled? Please explain your point of view.

No. The message that should come across is what Martin Luther King, Jr. said "That my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." This author is reversing this message + for what benefit?

As far as Republicans are concerned, this is the only thing MLK ever said in his life.

I never saw the movie but I'm reminded of the quote from East Rider:

"Of course, don't ever tell anybody that they're not free, 'cause then they're gonna get real busy killin' and maimin' to prove to you that they are. Oh, yeah, they're gonna talk to you, and talk to you, and talk to you about individual freedom. But they see a free individual, it's gonna scare 'em."

They see "one day" in that quote the same way they see "well-regulated militia" in the 2nd Amendment.

What about this book?

Once upon a time there was a young crown prince named Jonny. Prince Jonny was very handsome and a great warleader under his father the King (whom you'd better call if you needed his help).

Jonny's people were at war with a mighty enemy, including one particularly hulking brute who was bigger than anyone else around and very good with sword and shield and spear. This brute challenged Prince Jonny's dad's armies to single combat. One day a young shepherd named Davey came and accepted the challenge and, somehow, with just a sling and stone, managed to kill the brute.

The king welcomed the shepherd boy, and when Prince Jonny saw Davey for the first time, he was smitten. It was love at first sight, the love of true soulmates. The two quickly married each other in secret according to the customs of the land, which involved Jonny giving Davey the clothes he was wearing (stripping for him in the process), as well as his weapons, as a sign of both love and trust.

Jonny's daddy the king gave Davey a position at court, but after awhile he heard that the people of the kingdom were praising Davey even more than the king, saying that Davey was ten times the better warrior. The king got jealous and tried to kill Davey in the court, but Davey dodged the throwing spear, and fled.

The king was sorry, and offered one of his daughters, a princess, sister to Prince Jonny, to marry Davey, perhaps not yet knowing that Davey had already married Jonny, but back them people could have more than one spouse. The first daughter wasn't interested and married someone else, but another princess loved Davey and agreed to marry him, in return for Davey chopping off the foreskins of the penises of a hundred of the enemy soldiers, which he did. Secretly the king was doing this hoping that the enemies would seek to kill Davey in revenge for this (or while doing it).

The king later spoke to a council which included Prince Jonny that they should kill Davey, but Jonny loved his secret husband Davey and warned him, and his wife, Jonny's sister, helped him escape.

Davey realized that if the king wanted him dead so badly, he needed to flee forever from the court and from his lovers. Jonny didn't want him to go, and said that he'd test his dad to see if his dad still wanted Davey dead. So, he did, and his dad got angry and basically said, "You son of a perverse and rebellious woman! Do you think I don't know that you've chosen Davey as your lover, to your own shame and to the shame of your mother who conceived and gave birth to you?" Then he threatened to kill Prince Jonny unless Jonny turned Davey over to him.

Well, that was that. Jonny knew that Davey had to leave or die, and though he hated for him to go, he knew that there was no other way, so he gave Davey a pre-arranged sign to flee for his life. Before they left each other for the last time, meeting one last time in secret. The two hugged and kissed until Davey got a raging erection. That was the last time they saw each other alive.

Some time later, the king and all his sons including Prince Jonny were slain in battle, and Davey became king instead. He held a funeral for his beloved Jonny, made up a song in his memory, and wept as he sang the final lines, "I'm very sad for you, my beloved Jonny. You were wonderful to me. Your love for me was great, greater than that of women."

It seems like you've never read a twatter thread or any other place they seem to gather to comment, their copy/pasta game is strong. I'd go as far as to check that the book has as many pages as they say or that the reference is correct.

While on the phone with my daughter and one year old grandson my daughter had to do something and wanted me to distract him with a story. I wasn't prepared for it so I started "Once upon a time there was a bear that loved to eat children..." and just rambled on making noise words for him.

When she got back she asked me if the bear ate him yet as I was just finishing up. I told her yes. She said "Good. It's time for his lunch."

That's because there's only two ways to stop it.

1) The long way: everybody keeps farking everybody until we are all a nice even shade; or.
2) The short way: all the minorites band together and hunt down all us white people

The complaint about the Matt Walsh book addressing the trans topic... what else would you expect from a book written by a conservative commentator? He thinks trans rights is a joke, and wrote a children's book to try to make it a cruel joke.

2022-10-04 6:53:56 PM
The book is about a boy named Johnny who has a big imagination and pretends to be a walrus. His mom becomes convinced by "the internet people" and a "woke doctor" to force her son to eat worms and cut off his feet despite Johnny's protests.

OK, this one . . . may have a point..

One of those was very much not like the others.

Regardless of opinions on removing the book, the one about the anti-trans book was well written and logical. And the person clearly read the book to make the write-up. Not the "gays bad" and the like of most of the rest.

So let's pretend the school system is our country (hang on for a few). They are all into states rights so the parents here are the states.

Instead of letting the the school system (country) decide why not let the parents decide (states)? Leave the books as they are and give the responsibility to each individual state (parent). Seems pretty simple. The parents (states) control their children (cities).

/I admit this is not perfect and need some work
//but why should another parent have control over what my child reads?

You can bet your ass though that if that book was banned the Trumper grooming pedo crowd would raise a ton of shiat about why that book about trans is being banned but other books that talk about trans in a positive light are not being banned as well.

You missed a spot.

Not your fault, mind. There's plenty of spots in that anthology of bronze age spoken-word fables, and missing one or a hundred such spots would be like missing a single pebble in a 10-mile-long and 3-lane-wide gravel road.
