If we're reading this article an Fark, doctors in red states have already read it. Despite the author of the article clearly recommending that women be prescribed and take necessary antibiotics, now some quack will start depriving women of antibiotics when they have a respiratory infection.

Certain alterations in fetal gut microbiome (yes, fetuses have a gut microbiome) can produce asthma

The diversity of the microbes in the fetal gut allows them to produce different fatty acid chains that signal immune cells to dial down hyperactivity against the body to limit asthma and allergy.

Antibiotics mess with that gut microbiome diversity which then leads to the immune system becoming over-activated.

Here's another research article

It's been established for a few years and the mechanisms are pretty well understood including the diversity of the microbiome metabolic products.
