Document everything and have an exit plan.  Now that I think about it, that's my general advice, but it definitely applies here.  New bosses like to make their mark and that typically means someone is getting screwed.

It's always good to break the ice with a long story about how you thought someone at worked hated you but it worked out so everything's okay now. Be sure to list as many people's names in there as you can possibly fit. If your job uses initialisms, drop a bunch of those in there, too.

This will help acclimate them to your company's culture and people and show that you're the person who knows how things work.

Johnny the Tackling Alzheimers Patient: Leave a turd in his top desk drawer.

No, in the bottom of his file cabinet, and then make sure to rearrange the hanging file folders to make it harder to find.

Don't be silly: that's where the leopard is.

I like to lie low for awhile.  They basically ignore me, which works.  Later they suddenly find out that I am smart and know more than most of the staff and suddenly they are interested.

Several of them have tried to talk me into supervisory positions.  Never.  I don't care what it pays, I would never want to be a supervisor.  I do my job, I am in charge of my job and I like it that way.  I am always happy to help people, but I don't ever want to be in charge of people.  No way, no how.
