Tough call, from what I can tell burglary is an either way offense in the UK, meaning it might be indictable or it might not depending on who's making the call.  I'd at least give it a shot - magistrates are unlikely to have much sympathy for the thief

/if it was an indictable offense, there is no limitation statute

Ten years after the robbery the daughter found (and recognized) her dead grandfather's "...silver cigarette case, one of his watches and two of my mum's gold rings in a dish in the spare room" ?

So this stolen loot has been sitting out in plain sight in the thief's spare room for a decade? I'd look a little harder at the daughter who "found" this missing stuff, myself.
