How It's Made showed one model from almost 20 years ago. It's amazing how a BS artist can negate history and reality because they have an investment pitch.

This scares me slightly less than robots making hamburgers, given the high temperatures of pizza ovens so maybe there's less chance of the product making people sick, but here's yet ANOTHER article wherein some genius tech bro designs food processing equipment and the fawning journalist makes NO mention of whether these machines were designed with easy cleaning in mind.

Just ONCE I want to see a deep dive into that.

Because there's a huge potential for sickness and even death if a craven lazy owner doesn't take sanitation seriously when deploying their motorized petri dishes.

My guess, the machine you saw was designed by engineers who've spent their whole careers working for companies that make food processing machinery (as opposed to some kid whose dad is a venture capitalist), and it's in a food production facility with a dedicated sanitation crew and where QC technicians swab the equipment to make sure the bacteria counts aren't dangerously high.

I yell until I'm hoarse every time I notice a "tech bros revolutionizing food production" Fark thread because of the point you brought up. Making machines that can produce food that won't poison you, and running food production facilities where shiat gets cleaned as it should are things that humanity's known how to do for decades. Blue Bell ice cream notwithstanding.

To add on to that.  There is a difference between a machine that sits there making one pizza over and over again compared to one that has to custom make each pizza.  We probably could have built those 20 years ago, but the demand wasn't there because labor was still ok being exploited into making pizzas for $7 an hour.

Can't be too much worse than the "PREMIUM" pizza my wife got at work last week: burnt crust, very little sauce, too much cheese, overly-spicy pepperoni. All in an ridiculously heavy, over-sized fold-up box.

Costco has had automated pizza robots for 4-5 years by now. But they also make 3 kinds of of pizza, to the point you made

You can fark right off. Any worker adding 40% extra cheese is a hero.

Incidentally, if you have some cash to burn, the ooni backyard pizza ovens are a lot of fun. Really good when you have lots of guests because it's very easy to bake a few pizzas, but everyone thinks it's much harder than it really is. And the best part is that when people talk about the best places to get pizza, you put them down when you talk about making your own wood fired pizza.

I literally just got a pizza where the guy put too much cheese on it. It's a greasy sloppy mess. It's supposed to be a cracker-crust thin crispy pizza.

The grease went through the box onto my car seats.

As opposed to easy cleaning 16 year olds, robots are much safer.
