ToastmasterGeneral: COMALite J: So, next week has both Ben's first Leap into a woman, and it seems we already have an Evil Leaper now, using Al's Ziggy device?

Nope.

Her work is to make her dad's wishes come true.  She's leaping/working with Ben to bring Sam home.

I agree that that's her intent, but the atmosphere (or foreshadowing or whatever you want to call it) definitely has a sinister vibe.

Haven't watched this episode but that seems like a no-brainer.  They wouldn't have Al's daughter be a villain.

What happened to the Waiting Room?  Where the leapt person's consciousness would go when the leaper was in their body?

Well, if I remember, you could only leap into someone during your lifetime.  The actor was born in 1987, so they got it wrong already.

That was addressed in the episode already,

In case if you were wondering, yes, that was Beth, and the original actress who portrayed her in the original.

Beth was Al's wife who remarried after Al was shot down and went missing in Vietnam. In the last episode of the original series, Sam leaped in as himself to tell Beth that Al was coming home, so she never did remarry.

Agreed, but I think that's meant to keep us guessing as to whether Janis is or isn't a good guy.

I think Ben figured a possible way to bring Sam back, but he had to go outside of his lifetime to get there.  He knew the Pentagon wouldn't authorize it, so he went out of the program to work with Janis, who he already knew wanted to right Al's wrong.

I'm guessing season 1 finale is the reveal that they're going for Beckett, but you gotta watch season 2 (if it's not cancelled and title carded) to find out if it works. So season 1's tension (other than bringing Ben back) is whether Janis is a villain. Season 2's tension is can they actually complete it and bring Sam back.  Season 3 has a different antagonist.  Possibly as a consequence of them going to get Sam. If Ernie Hudson wants out, then maybe they pull Backula into the role as a regular. Otherwise, he goes kinda hermit and is only brought in for the occasional cameo.

/Why, yes, I have been thinking about how I'd try to unscrew up Quantum Leap for 28 years or so, why do you ask?...

Okay so here's my theory, by the way:
Sam Beckett leaped into Ben to set the events of the show in motion, and also eventually bring himself home. The slingshot is to align the two of them for some purpose that requires the two of them to coordinate and both get home.

Looked more like an imaging chamber to me.

I'm going to be nitpicky, but a person wearing a leather Jacket in early October Vegas (including in 1977) would have been a bit too warm.

I am enjoying this episode overall. Another win. I can't stress how much I love the nerd character whose name I keep missing's necktie.

Oh these people definitely need to gain a better understanding of work-life balance.

Since the original set a precedent of leaping into sentient animals when they are important, I totally want them to do like a show dolphin episode or something just for the combination of ridiculous/hilarious concept and deeply unsettling story material.
