In fairness to him, he was responsible for far more preventable deaths during the panddemic.

They should have just evacuated Lee County just in case because it's so hard to get people out. Like it takes over a day to get people out of the county and by the time they called for evacuation, the people had less than six hours to get out. Even the National Hurricane Center didn't call it right for Lee County.

It was apparent the whole state was going to get hit. On Sunday they should have just told everybody to get the fark out. Yeah, it's a PITA, but better safe than sorry.

So a small sliver of the county was in the 70% cone chance on the South Side. Pensacola was in the 70% cone chance on the northwest side. Should Pensacola have evacuated too? There isn't enough infrastructure available to evac everyone inland from Pensacola to Ft. Myers within 48-72 hours. 72 hours out you just don't know enough about who to send out and when. He's far more liable for the COVID deaths of the Pandemic which he had far more time and tools to manage than a goddamn high Cat 4 hurricane.

The moron is responsible for millions of deaths from Covid. He wants military people and their spouses to be teachers. He thinks Disney wants to make your children gay and just hates education in general.

And he's going to be our next President.

He didn't give a fark about all the people he killed during the pandemic, not sure why anyone thought he'd suddenly shift gears with a hurricane bearing down on his state. He doesn't care if people die. It's just not in his character.

People in FL only seem to care about their money, sunny weather, and recreation.  Maybe bath salts.

I bet a literal muppet could be governor for 10 years and nobody would notice.

Not requiring the people of Florida to do things is his brand.  Like how he encourages everyone to get COVID vaccines, but only if it's right for *you*.

Some friends of mine flew INTO the Ft Myers area the day before the hurricane hit (their condo is pretty much the bullseye for the storm).  He didn't just fail to order an evacuation, the county was still wide open one day before the landfall.  The whole Fl government failed.   Big time

Adjusted for age, Florida probably has the fewest deaths from COVID in any state.

Does anyone actually pay attention to the news?   I read on Fark, "ten foot storm surge expected in some places" and I knew that I'd evacuate if I was there.  That's all I needed to see.  Do I have magic powers or something?  I live 2000 miles from Florida.

I feel for people in natural disasters, but FFS.  We've been warned for years already that things are not going to be like they used to be.  Pay attention.   Half the people who are interviewed after the disaster say things like, "I've lived here for X years, and I never saw anything like this before!"

Fark.  The longer the internet is around, the stupider people get.  Maybe they asked Siri if they needed to evacuate.  It's a hurricane.  You even have time to pack.

Nah, they apparently just have like one road to get people in/out and then a bunch of tiny roads that connect to that. There's just not enough capacity to get everyone out fast.

It helped that Florida went through one of biggest flu outbreaks in the world at the same time, limiting covid transmissions

I-75 goes South and then East. That's a 4-lane interstate. Seems like they should do the reverse-flow stuff where all lanes are outbound and then you'd have 4 lanes of interstate highway to get everyone out of the area of major impact.

Look, it's understandable officials are following the official estimates. Desantis is a tool, but not for this.

That being said folks gotta take responsibility for their own shiat. My family learned their lesson after Hugo. We were far enough inland to not worry about flooding, so we rode it out. By some miracle we didn't die, despite the eye going right over us. We were incredibly lucky as we had three trees fall in three different directions, one of which was against the wind, all away from the house. The one that fell against the wind would have taken me out in my bedroom if it had fell the way it should have. I can also vividly remember lying in my bed and feeling the house shake and shudder around me.

My parents and my brother still live in the lowcountry of South Carolina. Now if anything stronger than a Cat 2 is in striking distance everyone GTFOs for my house about 130 miles inland. Even this storm my parents were here, though it was for unrelated reasons. It paid off too. Even though their house wasn't in the direct path of the storm, they lost a big limb off a tree that fell right where they usually have their camper parked. Luckily it was in my driveway not theirs this weekend.

When I was still in journalism school some hurricane was coming though and the school was willing to send us into the storm (and take up space in shelters) to do coverage for our senior practicum newspaper. I said thanks but no thanks. When questioned my answer was:

I've been through plenty of storms and earthquakes. Enough to know that Mother Nature is not farking around and given the opportunity she will indifferently farking kill you dead. So I have strict policy of not giving that biatch any free shots.

My ex-wife lives in Cape Coral, her area was told to evacuate, she didn't. I'm guessing a bunch of other stubborn people did the same thing. You gotta have some common sense when they are predicting 12foot+ storm surges in your area.
