Why would it be a bad idea? They're only allowed 5 edits, and it has to be within 30 minutes of posting. An icon will show that it's been edited and you can see the edit history, sort of like Wikipedia pages. It's not like people are going to be able to edit their Tweet and then claim they never said something because it will be in the edit history.
