Islands like East Timor probably have a somewhat accurate sense of what the USA does in the Pacific.

As if Biden has negotiated non-Chinese suppliers to supercede and replace any Chinese contracts. The USA will continue to support China: they will keep buying Rubbermaid product from China, Disney will continue to produce domestic movies with an eye for export to Chinese audiences, US real estate will continue to be sold to Chinese corporate landlords, US universties will keep those international student funds flowing (and thus continue training the current generation of computer nerds who will fight the USA in the digital front), and the Family Trump will continue to enjoy their Chinese trademarks.

Afghanistan is still pretty fresh in the mind of the U.S electorate, so the idea of another protracted international conflict wouldn't be an easy sell.

Still....Taiwan produces a huge percentage of the world's semiconductors and chips.  If the spin doctors pushed a "threatened business interests" narrative, that might resonate more with red states than a "standing up for democracy" narrative.  Or maybe not.  Lots of people don't know or particularly care where their consumer products originate.

But I think the "diplomatic ambiguity" status quo will be maintained.  Any military conflict between the U.S. and China over Taiwan would be far too costly for all three parties concerned.

The US' official stance regarding Taiwan and the threat of a Chinese invasion is essentially this:

Nobody knows what the US will do because of how volatile your internal politics are.  Between conservative and isolationist political leaders and a population of disinterested bubble dwellers even if a President supports action in Taiwan it's unlikely there would be domestic support for it nor would there be money to throw behind it.

Even the minor degree of material support being given to Ukraine is unpopular with Republicans, and that's without the use of any American personnel.

Just look to Ukraine.  That's exactly what the US would do.
