I live in a town in the middle of nowhere, MO. I can't get to town without seeing 2-3 Confederate flags no matter which way I head out of town. One dude has that white flag the the red cross on a blue background

While a bunch of Trump signage has come down, there are still several hangers on. Stop the Steal, Trump 2024, etc...

It sucks living out here.

That's the Evangelical flag. We had to pledge allegiance to it at Sunday school. Creepy as fark.

Yeah, I'm with HedlessChickn on this one.  Most of the rural hillbillies in southern MO just replaced their Trump flags with Gadsden's, Blue Line, and Christian flags because they're too cowardly to be openly racist anymore.

You still see the occasional Trump 202x, F*ckBiden, and Confederate flags but a majority of them are now hanging in their garages or the closets where they keep their shrines and skeletons.

I dont even wanna go in to what i've seen in some folks' garages out here.

It would strain credulity.

I'm in the blue bubble of St Louis, so I don't typically see the rural parts of the state, but this generally tracks with my experience living in south Georgia, in the pre-Trump times.

The missing signs don't mean these people won't still vote for TFG over a Democrat no matter what.

I don't care what you guys say about the state. We still have Josh Hawley, and that makes me so proud.

I was in rural Western PA this weekend and saw my fair share of Mastriano signs (and an occasional Shapiro and Fetterman sign).

TLDR: This woman is too optimistic

2022-10-03 2:12:21 PM
People know the truth and they're fed up.

Or TFG gave them permission to be outwardly cruel and racist. And now that the pendulum has started to swing back, they've become quietly cruel and racist again.

They'll still vote for him if he runs.

Speaking from my visits to rural missouri-yes.

I live in Kansas City. I've stopped correcting people who think I live in Kansas.

It is less humiliating.

FWIW, on my way home from work today, I will pass about 5 or 6 still-flying TRUMP flags. And I live in the suburbs of Ohio.

2022-10-03 2:17:31 PM
That's interesting cause when I went to the Lake of the Ozarks a few weeks back I saw quite a few Trump/LGB/FJB flags waving along the countryside there.

2022-10-03 2:17:50 PM
i live in mid missouri and i still see *plenty* of trump signs. heck, there's a house south of town by the state park that has a representation of "monica's dress" in the yard. and then there's the house that's in a nice neighborhood with RON PAUL 2012 signs on the porch...

I was in southwest Virginia two years ago and the Trump / Pence signs outnumbered the Biden / Harris signs ten to one.  I'll be back down there in a couple of weeks.  I'm expecting to see a lot of blue candidate signs, and no abortion clinic signs.

2022-10-03 2:20:27 PM

physt: The missing signs don't mean these people won't still vote for TFG over a Democrat no matter what.

They're also no longer showing up to the rallies, and small donations from individuals have slacked off to the point where state level Republicans can't even afford to run TV ads right now.

This woman I graduated high school with posted photos online of her bedroom renovation, and she has a Trump flag over the headboard.  This is a 46 year-old woman.  These people are insane.

Meanwhile, I now have three people in my subdivision that have upside down American flags. Two came up the day after President Biden accurately called them fascists and the other after President Biden announced his student loan forgiveness plan (I'm not going to try and understand that one).

Central Illinois still has some.  There's one on the east side of I-70 near Greenville.  It just says TFGs name but it's been strafed with paint balls.

There are the true believers that TFG will return to the White House via the supreme Court.  Like on specifics but it will happen.

I wonder if they're related to that guy who owns the property that has the very faded "RON PAUL 2012" sign along I-70 just outside of Columbia.

Quietly?  Go back out front and ask Lizzo about that.  Quiet...lol.

"And lemme just tell y'all. Everyone did not know that stuff. In New York, folks had his number all day long. But in rural MO--what we knew about the man all came from The Apprentice and watching Home Alone 2. Folks thought he was a wealthy businessman who made things better."

While I have no doubt that this is true  -- I've seen this written before.

But its not an excuse. You're gonna tell me that you're gonna vote for someone in 2016 without doing a basic internet search of their history beyond seeing them on TV?

Thats just lazy.

I don't have to pass any during my commute but once I get outside the suburbs there are still a lot of Cheetolini signs still out there.  Though I also have heard a number of his supporters also start backing down on their BS as well.  Not nearly as many as we could hope for, but some.

2022-10-03 2:28:35 PM
Here in OK there was a pickup in the high schools student lot with very tattered dump flags.  Have not seen the truck or flags in a couple of weeks.  Flunked out?

The Stolen Valor asshat took a lot of wind out of GQP sails around here.  They get aggressive when you start questioning them as to how they manage to believe GQP bullshiat now too when you bring that up.  He did more to kill GQP enthusiasm than most things I could think of.

A friend of mine today said she's a Republican, but she's voting for John Fetterman.  So maybe that's a wee bit of hope.

The ones who support Oz or Future Gitmo Resident Doug Mastriano are looked at as sad.  This is a remarkable change from even six months ago.

On my trips over the spring and summer in Florida and Georgia, I saw many Trump flags. Often associated with Confederate Battle Flags

If I ever found myself in a position where "this deal has more left turns than a door knob" was considered a pithy thing to say to colleagues and the news I'm not sure I could carry on.  Forget the "it's got so much hair on it" - I suppose "i gotta haircut" is next?  goddamcaricatures...

2022-10-03 2:35:10 PM
We do a lot of camping in rural MN, WI and IA the trump signs are certainly dwindling. Very few trump signs compared to last year but there's been an increase of fark biden ones.

2022-10-03 2:36:23 PM
The Trumper House I drive past on the way to work still has some of his stuff up, but the centerpiece now is a flag that says "Vote Republican - They may not be perfect, but the other side is insane"
It's not a very nice house, I don't know how they afford a projector that powerful.

lol, i forgot about that one! i'm not sure it's still there. i don't remember seeing it last summer when i went that way. the ron paul house i'm talking about is over by fairview elementary school.

I'm in a KC suburb (but in the KC city limits) and the trump flags are still everywhere, every 5th car has a Trump bumper sticker, and there a tons and tons of Trump-related signs as soon as you're outside the city.

But maybe bumfark-wherever is more progressive and informed than here. IDK.

She is, but she's also not wrong that a fair number of the rural folks are coming around to the fact that Trump's a moron. I mean, voting for a moron's preferable to a Democrat for a lot of these people, but at least the tinge is off the rose colored glasses for many of them. It's not a lot, but it's a step in the right direction.

I've only got one upside down American flag and two Gadsden flags.  I also see a couple, "My Governor is an idiot" signs.  Meh, we're fairly densely populated suburb of Detroit.  I am guessing Whitmer signs out number Two-door Dicks-by about 40:1 and this is a fairly well to-do suburb in the North Woodward area.  So I am encouraged.  There is a guy I ride my bike past who has a banner that fills the side of his house that says, "Trump Won".  I am glad I don't live near him.
