The Voting Rights Act would not be able to pass today. Despite being unanimously re-upped in 2006.

It was really worth it not to commit to judicial reform in order to preserve the civility and legitimacy of the Supreme Court.

They're getting ready to slam to door on Democracy. It's going to be.... interesting to say the least, when the popular vote for one candidate gets overruled by some cabal somewhere of people no one elected and they install a Republican "other candidate" dictator.

Going to be more wild when it gets legal appealed to the Supreme Court and then enshrined in to law.

But, ya know, adding more Justices would just make the problem worse, so I'm told that's not a viable fix to the current situation of a known traitor hijacking and politicizing the legal process. I'm an "Eeyore" or whatever the kids are calling it these days, with their backward hats and skateboards.

If packing and cracking were used to draw the districts so that there is only one majority-Black district it would seem to me that the map would violate the Voting Rights Act.

No, it seems like conservatives people killed. The conservatives pushing this aren't really in any danger themselves and they have a bunch of armed, crazed lunatics to protect them. They want chaos and anarchy so that they can dismantle the constitutional government and give us unaccountable private business in it's place.

The supreme court's reasoning of course for dismantling the voting rights act will be that racism no longer exist anymore because there are 2 black people on the court and we once had a black president. So black people can relax now.  Alabama Republicans can be trusted, just like the rest of the gop.

Ummm, yeah, great thought, but I live in Missouri. The Nazis don't have to wear armbands here, it's just understood.

Now we have that creepy Eric Schmidt trying to ruin the Senate for another 6 years, so it's just a matter of tying ourselves to the stake and waiting for the firing squads.

Popular Opinion: Making districts that are majority black creates opportunities for black politicians to be elected.

Counterpoint that is less popular: The very act of doing the above is making large number of safe Republican districts.

We all think that Gerrymandering is bad, but that is exactly what was done to create districts that were likely to vote for minority candidates.

/apportionment is the answer

I think they'll side with the Republicans and accept their argument that since they use criteria other than race to determine the districts that they can in no way be racial gerrymanders since they didn't use race and it's just very coincidental that 25% of the population only has 1 representative and you're the real racist for noticing.

A war, no. Lone wolf and small group attacks throughout the country, yes. Just because they aren't showing up to money grab/political rallies doesn't mean they wouldn't be the first in line to kill some 'others' given the chance.

Yeah, it's not like the people responsible for a Trump presidency wouldn't take some responsibility and carry on business as usual at the donors' demands and nominate another relic from centrism's past under the premise of, "What are the little people gonna do, let the Republican win?"

They do that again, they're just asking for fascism in the hopes of getting a cushy job after the fact.

SCOTUS really can't enforce anything. If Congress doesn't craft the laws and states refuse to enact policies accordingly, they can't do anything but sit there and whine. Vote blue from now on, and get everyone you can on board and this will be over.

We did that in 2020, and achieved a Democratic majority in both chambers of Congress, as well as the White House. It's actually gotten worse instead of being over.

Well, see, here's the thing. It's 25% black people in the state and if we had 8 districts we would have made two of them black majority with no problems. Unfortunately, them revenuers from the federalcensus bureau only allowed us 7 districts and it just wouldn't be white, err, I mean right to give any group disproportionate representation.

I think that it's one thing to talk tough on the internet, but it's entirely different when you have to build the truck bomb yourself and not get caught doing it.

SCOTUS lost any legitimacy after overstepping its constitutional separation of power to hear Bush v Gore in 2000.
