Bold move. I wouldn't let Riker anywhere near my wife.

Does he not have any friends outside of work colleagues?

When 'work family' is a real thing.  That's awesome.

But one would hope there are a few people there who weren't on the TNG cast and just didn't fit in a PR photo for actors.

When the movies came out on Blu-ray, I remember in the special features that the TNG actors were always talking about the friendships between the actors, and with the TOS actors, well, that never came up once...

I see he forgot to invite Shatner.

With TOS, it didn't take nearly as long to shoot each episode, so I'm guessing they all didn't spend as much time together before it was cancelled. Still, recently George Takei recently tweeted about being a friend of Nichelle Nichols from before the show started, and there are stories floating around online about Nimoy and Shatner clowning around at the studio between shoots.

Good for them! Marrying my wife was one of the best decisions I've ever made as well. We tied the knot 22 years ago this Friday.

Still is on GH.

Apparently the set of the miniseries North and South was like a matchmaking party. Frakes and Francis hooked up, Kirsty Alley and Parker Stevenson hooked up, James Read and Wendy Kilbourne hooked up, and Lesley Anne Down hooked up with a cinematographer.

Not to be cynical, but I think Takei was just being nice given that Nichols had just died -- I mean, I doubt they were drinking buddies.

As for the TNG cast, it seems like they all genuinely liked each other, and similar to Mark Hamill, understood they were role models and took that responsibility seriously. Stewart might not be the most charismatic person, but he clearly has a deep appreciation for the fans that I'm not sure any of the TOS actors had.

He wasn't just being nice - https://people.com/tv/george-takei-recalls-nichelle-nichols-reaction-being-asked-to-be-matron-of-honor/

It never comes up between the TOS cast because one member is a colossal asshole to the rest, Shatner. AFAIK, the rest all could get along, only Nimoy got along with Shatner.

A cool story would be if LeVar asked Patrick Stewart if he should marry Stephanie Cozart and Stewart responded in his Picard voice "Engage!".

Could be the difference between making 177 episodes together vs 80.

2022-10-03 4:10:36 PM
I think my favorite behind-the-scenes TNG anecdote was that for the first few weeks of shooting, Patrick Stewart got so fed up with with degree of goofing off on set that he pulled the cast aside one day and gave them a proper British what-for... and they proceeded to mercilessly mock him to the point the Royal Shakespearean stick up his butt finally dislodged and he ended up becoming the worst goof-off of them all.  They totally broke him.

Goes along with what thornhill says above, like he actually hasn't always been this effortlessly charming dude, he freely admits they beat the dour and awkward out of him and a sorely needed dose of self-awareness into their place. The anecdote he tells about meeting Sting while filming Dune is funny but absurd
