That's terrifying. Maybe next time, and there will be, you could take a vacation when they ask you to evacuate. We're you staying to protect your home from flood waters?
I can hear it now, I've lived here all my life and it's never happened before. Things have changed all your life.
Just leave and expect not to have a home when you get back. Maybe you'll be surprised.

If they told me a 7.0 earthquake was going to happen within 100 miles of me I'd plan to be 500 miles away.
Average number of hurricanes in Florida is 1 every 3 years so it's not like you'd be bugging out all the time or anything.
I really can't understand the logic. Poverty and the inability to leave I understand. To make a decision to stay if you have the means to evacuate makes 0 sense.

In the other thread I saw the guy who was going to ride out the hurricane on his sailboat in the marina.

Like, days before the hurricane made landfall, you didn't set sail and go North to get away from the hurricane?

Well, days before the hurricane, north had a higher chance of being struck by Ian. Even Cedar Key, way up there, had a higher risk than Naples.


West or East, if you literally LIVE ON A SAILBOAT your house is entirely mobile and can put to sea to get out of the path of a hurricane.
