Consumers spent the last two years spending like crazy on things and now that is rebalancing to services and experiences - things that they couldn't spend money on in a pandemic.  CNBC just assumes that less spending on things means bad economy.

FTA:" "Right now we are tracking at 2019 levels and are down 80% from where we were a year ago."

So, we're finally getting back to pre world gone crazy levels and this is a problem?

Not gonna happen. When demand picks up available stock will deplete and make the shortages. We've got things like crop failures and worker shortages to contend with, let alone raw material prices.

Companies don't want to pay the extra cost it would place on the entire bucket to get more input supply, it doesn't make any sense to do so. They are quite fine with smoothing their own output supply, even if it means minimmizing total throughput. This comes with the side benefit of also being also to maximize real profits without obvious price gouging.

Everything is farked up and everyone knows it. The consumer is just too stupid to understand he controls the economy and could allow it to sort itself out if he would just stop buying useless shiat he doesn't need.

At that point why buy groceries if you're already a criminal, just steal them.
