I second subby.

Unless it's a double album, our only real choices are side 1 or side 2, right?

I guess it's alright if you're chilling at the old folks home on a slow day with a strong indica.

It's top five, but I would nominate Side 2 of "Days of Future Passed" followed by "Dark Side of the Moon".

2022-10-03 10:36:13 AM
The Ninth Wave from Kate Bush's album Hounds of Love is the best side 2 of any album ever imho.

I'm a little tired of Money so I can't follow you on DSOTM, but "Days of Future Passed" is a really solid one.

But I'm ultimately down with Subby.  I recently bought a 7 inch from somewhere in eastern Europe that had Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The End.  I had hoped to put it in my jukebox, but I failed to realize that it was a 33 instead of a 45 so it wouldn't work.  It kills me that there doesn't seem to be a proper 45 in existence of those three tracks.  Same for Nights in White Satin with the "Late Lament" piece.

I've always found the Beatles and Elvis to be the most overrated of groups.  I'm more of a Zeppelin/Floyd/Hendrix kind of guy.

Rubber Soul is the best Beatles album subby, both sides.

That is a pretty good side.  I've definitely listened to that stretch of songs a ton of times...but CDs only had one side.

That is, limiting it to Side 2s.  There are any number of album sides better than Abbey Road side 2

If you add the Stones to that I'll ask you to marry me.

As far as the Stones, ome people will say Exodus on Main Street , some will say Sticky Fingers or Let it Bleed, but I say either side of Beggar's Banquet.

Lots of good ideas here.   I'm going with the classics.

Zeppelin IV, Side 2.

Misty Mountain Hop
Four Sticks
Going to California
When the Levee Breaks

/ Stairway to Heaven isn't even the best song on the other side of the record
// Battle of Evermore
/// Tres

I love the Beatles; they changed rock music forever. But I must nominate a double album in which any of the first three sides are at least as good as Abbey Road side two.

I'm not even sure it's the best Beatles album side, let alone the best side by anyone.

Exhibit A:
Good Day Sunshine
And Your Bird Can Sing
For No One
Doctor Robert
I Want to Tell You
Got To Get You Into My Life
Tomorrow Never Knows

Exhibit B:
Back In The USSR
Dear Prudence
Glass Onion
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
Wild Honey Pie
The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill
While My Guitar Gently Weeps

The Live side (side 2) of "Flowers of Evil" by Mountain is one of the greatest rock jams ever recorded.

2022-10-03 11:19:10 AM
This is not even The Who's best album but either side is better. Pick one.

Then She Did is one of my favorite songs of all time. It's one of my go to songs for when i need to prompt a bit of 'let it all out' tears and catharsis. I can't say why but the lines 'pulled from a headless shell, that blinked on and off motel...now the nameless dwell they hold your key and turn your knob...I'll bet!' just gets me every time.

lol...just funniness the Beatles fans.  I appreciate their place in music history, just not my thing.

Best album side:

Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables

Side One:

1. Kill the Poor
2. Forward to Death
3. When Ya Get Drafted
4. Let's Lynch the Landlord
5. Drug Me
6. Your Emotions
7. Chemical Warfare

Daydream Nation Side 1:

Silver Rocket

Raw Power Side 1:
Search And Destroy
Gimme Danger
Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell
Penetration

The Head on the Door Side 2:
The Baby Screams
Close to Me
A Night Like This
Screw
Sinking

Heyday Side 2:
Tantalized
Disenchanted
Night Of Light
Youth Worshipper
Roman

My second favorite album side, side 2 of Jimmy Buffett's A1A. None of the silliness of Cheeseburger, Volcano, Why Don't We Get Drunk, etc. Just a great songwriter at the top of his game.

A Pirate Looks at Forty
Migration
Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season
Nautical Wheelers
Tin Cup Chalice

First of all, no. Not even in the Top 25 of best album sides.

Second of all, missing both "Holiday in Cambodia" and "California uber alles" so it can't even be the best side of that album.

Dating myself, but I saw DK at the Roxy in '81. They didn't plan to play "Chemical Warfare" but my buds and I screamed for it, so they looked at each other, shrugged, and then changed the set list on the fly. If you were there, you're welcome.

Bat out of Hell (Meat Loaf) side 1 and Boston (Boston) side 1 are both pretty perfect. There may be others as good, but you won't find better rock and roll.

Edgar Winter's "Entrance", his first release, is an absolute masterpiece. Trust me on this. Side one of "Entrance" is a through-composed medley of original songs. It has a theme and a flow, and brilliant transitions. The compositions and musicianship are top notch. Bonus: One of the songs is based on a riff that later resurfaced as part of the song "Frankenstein".

I've been 'deep listening' for over 50 years, have never heard anything that comes close to Edgar Winter's "Entrance."

He wrote the songs with his brother, no surprise to me it's so great. Johnny plays on Tobacco Road, too. Underappreciated and not as well known as it should be.
