Have they figured out how not to shutoff features once the car is resold yet? Or the fact that Elon is a terrible human being and that turns off the kind of people who traditionally champion EVs?

Yep...every carmaker is going to have a bunch of EVs in the very near future and I'd rather not spend any of my money on something associated with Musk.

Honestly, I thought my next car would be a Tesla until I realized what a douche Elon was. Now I'm thinking Polestar or Rivian or something, well, not Tesla.

Every Rivian seemingly went to my neighborhood.  I see about 3 a day.  A year ago I didn't see a single one.

Beyond brand loyalty why buy Tesla?  At this point they make the most boring looking cars out there. There's a reason that the other automakers revise their styling every 5-10 years Elon.

Then there are all the various defects and poor fit of panels etc.

Has Tesla ever delivered what they said they would in a quarter?

Not sure, but this report is based on analyst estimates.

You missed the Elon Musk nutswingers this past weekend in another Tesla related thread who claimed panel gaps and fitment are a non-issue.

Well your cheating spouse is a non-issue if you decide that they are worth it no matter their flaws.

For me, the quality issues and overall sameness of all their cars are reasons enough for me not to buy one. Elon's douche status wouldn't be a reason for me to avoid the brand though. None of the other car manufacturers are exactly pillars of good. They are all for profit multinationals that all have blood on their hands at one point or another over business practices, recalls, lobbying, anti consumer or worker practices.

That being said, these are the choices we have. Despite being personally impacted by VW diesel-gate, I'd jump to buy a euro spec Id.buzz if I could.

I also love teslas direct to consumer model and hope other manufacturers can pull that off (probably not because dealer laws).

Even if you like Musk, the build inconsistencies of Tesla are a giant risk given the cars' price points.

The door handles on the Model S are needlessly overcomplicated; however, everyone says "ooooh" and "ahhh" over them because "They're so cool".  Yup, so cool they're a common maintenance problem, plus they tend to function sporadically over time.  The Model X is a complete shatshow all in its own.

They are for sure a bigger issue to you, a non Tesla owner, so sorry about your stress!

They're part of the many reasons I won't buy a Tesla.  And, that's fine with me if it means I'm a different kind of smug.

Because they have a reliable charger network.  Tesla owns and operates their own chargers, so there are no third party repair hiccups or interoperability issues like you see with other charger networks.  Ars Technica released a scathing report on that issue back in July.

Also, because their chargers tend to be higher power on average, especially in rural areas.  Most Superchargers these days are either 150 or 250 kW, even in remote rural areas.  Meanwhile, it isn't uncommon to find 50 kW chargers in rural areas away from freeways.

And because their vehicles have an above-average charging limit, especially compared to non-luxury EV brands.

Lastly, because they don't have a bunch of shiatty dealers demanding an extra $10K or more for an in-demand vehicle.  Good luck finding a Kia EV6 in California without a fifteen thousand markup.

That said... with the shift to 800V or higher battery platforms over the next couple years, Tesla going to lose its charging advantage.

And the NEV program the feds just launched includes minimum standards for charger power and reliability if you want subsidy money.  Also, automakers are starting to demand better SLAs from partner charging networks.  As such, Tesla is going to start losing its network advantage too.

Ford is also sick of the crap with dealers, so they're pushing for more transparency in pricing, which may help with dealer surcharges.  I imagine other manufacturers may follow suit.

And as everyone points out, Tesla is the new Jaguar when it comes to crappy reliability.  People waiting it out for something more reliable are going to find many other better options rather soon.
