most of the areas with a worst megadrought are deserts, is lack of water in a desert really a drought? or just what should be expected?

Damn shame people are cutting more of them down to heat their home this winter. If only we had some sort of energy policy to keep electric rates low instead of driving up prices with electric cars.

I don't know what's more amusing, your bare assertion about electric cars "driving up prices"  or that you believe you have a "right" to cheap pollution.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.  Cars polute but wood stoves are worse.

Seeing it only takes homes in a neighborhood to install charging ports to require significant upgrades to the neighborhood distribution system you can bet it will drive up prices.

kittyhas1000legs: If I had the budget, I'd love to just plant trees up and down the shores of rivers all over the place.  Capture some carbon, provide some shade, slow some erosion, maybe even provide some food.


Have you seen the shores of rivers?

Too bad burning them releases all that carbon back into the atmosphere. Also too bad that climate change has already created a massive increase in acres burned over the past couple decades.

West coast forests have seen a significant decrease in precipitation. This also increases tree death from bark beetles, because the trees' natural defense against beetles is drowning them in sap. Reduced sap flow results in beetle population explosions, and wide swaths of dead forest, which provides additional fuel for fires.

Makes me sick when I go back home to visit my dad and they've torn out even more of the wooded areas for gated communities.  We moved out there to be out in the country.  We tresspassed played across square miles of wooded areas, and they're just eating it all up.

It also used to be dead quiet when there was nothing going on in the neighborhood.  The place is 5 miles from the interstate, and now you can even hear that at all hours.  Traffic may have picked up, but the significant reduction in trees has also reduced the sound dampening.

WelldeadLink: Of course, the climate models already knew all about this.


The article says the climate models have been undershooting this. Whatev, it (temporarily) removes abotut 10% of what we add and the difference from what climate models have is maybe 2%.  Slight improvement but not a lot.
