It was a glorious three games.  I'm glad Ian decided to veer to the right a bit more so weather wouldn't be a factor. Don't want to give Mets fans any excuse for Metsing.

Nah, don't sell yourselves short.  All trolling aside, your guys have had a genuinely great season.  Yeah, that series against the Marlins wasn't ideal for you, but you're still on pace to break 100.  The Braves have just been unreal this year, there's no way around it.  No team has ever come back from a worse first 50 games to a 100-win year.

This.

98 wins is the most regular-season wins I've seen a Mets team have. We had a no-hitter and a six-run comeback in the 9th. It's been a good year, and a mildly down September doesn't change that.

So the Mets are likely going to be the 4-seed. If they survive the wildcard round they will play the Dodgers. If they had won their series against the Braves, they'd have the bye and no Dodgers until the NLCS, and maybe no Dodgers at all. That's an epic failure. A Mets tradition.

The Braves just played lights out the last half of the season.  The Mets record was solid all year, and they will probably end up with 100 wins - can't really call it a collapse.  Everyone in the NL is chasing the Dodgers anyway.

Luckily the Mets did pretty well against the West coast teams earlier this year.

After that one bonkers game a few weeks ago where the Braves stormed all the way back to take the lead against the Mariners in the top of the 9th only for Kenley Jansen to serve up two pastries to J-Rod and Suarez in the bottom half to blow it, Mets fans enjoyed it so much in online comments a part of me thought "yo, keep the powder dry lads". I think three different Mets fans offered me their daughters and I never even said anything.

the funny thing is they didn't even need to win the series. Just winning ONE GAME this weekend still would've kept the odds of winning the division in the Mets' favor

Oh yeah? Well, the Marlins don't even have the same logo anymore, the Phillies have the most losses of any professional team in any sport in any league in any country ever, and the Braves were built on human trafficking.

/Nats are cool though.

He probably says the Braves didn't play anyone while making their comeback while not realizing that they played the same teams as the Mets.

I hate the Mets and find enjoyment in their collapses.  But this isn't one when you put the 10.5 game lead in context.  That's since June 1st.  The Mets have played 18 wins over .500 in that time.

Yes, this isn't 2007, where the Phillies played insane for a month, and the Mets completely forgot how to play baseball during the same time period.

Dodgers are a great team but their numbers are absolutely inflated by being in a division they could wrap up in August. They lost the season series to the Mets and split iirc with the Braves.

Not saying they're not still worthy of a 100 win season, but those three are absolutely on par. Shame one of them will have to be eliminated before the NLCS.

Mets even went 15-11 in September. They lost to some weaker teams (though Cubs have been above .500 in the second half), but at most, they mildly underperformed down the stretch.

June 1st is forever ago. Mets have been 3-5 games up for most of July and then waffling between tied and a couple games up since August.

I like that there's a very good chance there will be three teams with a hundred wins in the NL.

Speaking of the Cardinals, Albert just hit a 2-run bomb to pass Babe Ruth for seconds all-time in RBIs.  Dude just won't stop.

Nats-Mets was rained out and the Braves lost, to the Mets' hopes are for now, still alive by a frayed thread.

Phillies meanwhile took the last NL spot.

Jays won, Rays lost, M's are currently losing to the Tigers as of this post. If the Mariners lose, Jays clinch the 4th seed and will host all games in their Wild card series.

So right now...

AL

1. Astros (bye, home field advantage over winner of 4-5)
2. Yankees (bye, HFA over winner of Guardians-6)
3. Guardians (hosts all games in wild card round vs 6)
4. Jays/Mariners (Jays clinch if Mariners lose tonight, hosts all games in wild card round vs 5)
5. Mariners/Jays/Rays (Rays hold tiebreaker over Mariners)
6. Rays/Mariners

NL

1. Dodgers (bye, HFA over winner of 4-5)
2. Braves/Mets (Braves clinch with win or Mets loss, bye, HFA over winner of Cardinals-6)
3. Cardinals (hosts all games in wild card round vs 6)
4. Mets/Braves (hosts all games in wild card round vs 5)
5. Padres/Phillies (Phillies have tiebreaker over Padres)
6. Phillies/Padres

2022-10-04 12:54:33 AM
..and Mariners lose

sadly, no playoff games in Seattle unless they can win the first series
